While I'm no anti-speeding nazi, I see that line of reasoning ending badly for you, or at least becoming prohibitively costly.

I've met theDuke866 before and he seems like one of the classiest, mature, and responsible individuals that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Add to that he's been responsible enough to be a man about taking care of his kid and he's a marine. What the hell is your problem, BridgetSPK?

i was going down avent ferry and someone was pulled over by RPD but for some reason, they decided to stop in the damn suicide lane.

are yall really that fucking stupid. if you gonna get pulled over, put ur flashers on and pull into a parking lot or off at an area where there is less of a chance where the cop can get hit by a car.

im serious, like usually they go easier on u if they know you pulled over so it was safer for them, unless they are a total douche bag

If I said that, I was talking about future dollars. I'd like to have somewhere in the neighborhood of a quarter-mil per year in retirement (in today's dollars).

and I do the best I can with a bad situation in terms of fatherhood. I'll tell you that I'm not the limiting factor.

oh, got pulled again on Thanksgiving day for 37 in a 25. actually got a written warning this time. cop was pretty cool, though.

yeah, i usually manage to pull over in a good spot for them. Then I turn my engine off. I roll my window down and keep my left arm/hand either out the window or resting on top of the door. I keep my right hand up on the steering wheel in plain view. If it's dark outside, I also turn my interior lights on.

I don't want to get shot, and I figure a cop who doesn't feel potentially threatened will be at ease and more inclined to cut me a deal.

no offense at all but

Quote :

you should know better than to commit any offense on base. that's coming from someone who drove almost daily on camp lejeune and cherry point, not to mention numerous other bases throughout the past few years:

fort monroe, fort mcpherson, fort drum, fort belvoir, camp johnson, camp geiger, etc

they are sooo strict

I got a ticket for (est)60 in a 45, yes he wrote (est) and expired registration (2 months). I think he just pulled me cuz my bike is loud. I'll probably be able to get the registration ticket dropped, any idea about the ticket?

well, luck finally ran out.

just got pulled over again (11th time since I moved here in mid-June). Got clocked at 77 in a 50 (Valentine 1 bought me a couple seconds to stomp the brakes before he got a reading--I was really prob doing 85 or so). Got written up for 60 in a 50. Fine is $113.

oh yeah, it's paid for itself a bunch of times over.

most of the cops on the island here run instant on...they'll crest a hill and flip the RADAR on. I think they do it when they crest hills sometimes just blindly hoping a speeder will be oncoming.

Quote :
"Barbara Wellensiek knew her son's insurance bill would be steep because of his driving record, but when the renewal notice arrived she was shocked to see the annual premium was $104,566.63.

"I thought it was a typo," Wellensiek said today. "I didn't panic - I thought it was a mistake."

When she phoned her insurance broker, Access Insurance Group, she got confirmation that the figure on the notice was accurate, the rate having been hiked from $1,300 per month.

She calculated that her son, Janson Towers, would have to work full-time all year and earn $55 per hour just to pay his auto insurance premium.

Towers has all the factors going against him that add up to a high premium, even under the new grid system brought in when auto insurance reforms took effect in 2004.

He's 19, and has a "tendency to speed," Wellensiek said.

He got his first car at age 16. His licence was suspended twice. Since May 2005 he has received 10 speeding tickets, and has been in two minor "fender benders" and a rear-ender that totalled his car.

Though the insurance industry has complained that the grid system rewards bad drivers, an insurer could charge even more.

When the details of Towers' driving record were put into the auto insurance rate calculator on the provincial government website, the maximum allowable charge that came out was $122,727.42 per year.

Wellensiek went to another insurance company, Morgex, which quoted her $50,000 for a premium on her son's Nissan 240.

She has chipped in on his premiums before because of his need for a car. He has been playing junior football in Kelowna, taking physiotherapy because of football injuries, working part-time and is about to start attending Okanagan College.

But there's no way the family can afford $50,000.

"If he can't drive, I'm sure he'll accept it. He'll just have to wait until the convictions fall off."

Towers said he's moving permanently to British Columbia and is optimistic he can insure his car there for about the same rate he was paying in Alberta last year. If that doesn't work out, he'll have to ride his bike.

"I'd rather buy a house than pay that ($104,000)," he said.

He's still shocked by the invoice, and says that most of the speeding tickets clocked him going just a few kilometres per hour over the limit.

Alison Gates-Kriston, spokeswoman for Alberta Finance, said there are three factors on the insurance rate grid: number of years of driving, accident claims and convictions.

"Your grid rating is a reflection of your driving record," Gates-Kriston said. "It's the driver's decision as to whether they want to be insured or whether they want to stop driving."

An official with Access Insurance Group, which quoted the $104,566.63 premium, said the company can't comment because of privacy legislation.

Michael Debolt, government affairs manager for the Alberta office of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, was surprised by the amount of the premiums allowed under the grid rules, but said his industry is still opposed to capping rates under the grid system.

"We don't believe in the grid at all - we believe an individual's insurance premiums should reflect the risk they carry," he said."

haha, pwned

Dude that blows. At least in Raleigh they just sit over hills. There are some hills on 64 west that are so steep that the v1 doesn't even pick them up. I don't speed on highways but I do actively look for cops, its easy when that annoying ass V1 blares in your face.

It sucks that the only decent roads to speed on are 45mph roads. You get in excess of that fairly quickly (2nd gear).

damn...pulled over for the 12th time on Whidbey Island the other night...got another ticket, too!

this time it was for "following too close". what's a bunch of bullshit is that I wasn't doing anything. i wasn't excessively close to the car in front of me--especially since we were going about 25 mph! i wasn't even in a hurry...it was a 4-lane road and I could've gone around if I'd wanted.

Also, I saw the cops pull over 4-5 more people in the same spot within about an hour of my ticket.

I plan on taking this one to court and fighting it. It's a federal citation and federal court...that'll be a new experience.

^^^^ i don't have that many tickets...I think I've had maybe 5 tickets or so over the 12 years I've been driving, and had one or two of those reduced or thrown out (or reduced to city code violations). I bet I've been pulled over 70-80+ times, though (maybe 100...i don't know).

I'll take the "blame" for part of it, but part of it is just attention from Barney Fife for driving sports cars (and where I live now is a special case.)

I had a dickhead Texas state trooper pull the same shit on me a while back. As we came over a small hill on a 4 lane highway the minivan in front of me saw the trooper and slammed on the brakes. Obviously I was much closer to their bumper at that point.

The trooper pulled me and wrote me a written warning for following too closely, but then used the fact that I was traveling alone with out of state tags as a reason to search me. It's a long story, but the guy was pissed at me when he didn't find shit after a 2 hour search.

Got it again.

61 in a 40 this time, and received a $247 ticket. Didn't even write it up for a lesser amount.

That marks the 13th time I've been pulled over since July, and the 3rd ticket I've received.
