Hughes will be great a couple years down the road but he is going to be watch closely all season.
And thank god we didn't do the Santana deal... HOW THE FUCK COULD WE GIVE UP MELKY?!? 12/8/2007 10:24:10 AM |

The deal wasn't worth it....I do believe Hughes will win 15 to 18 games this year.....Wang was arm tired and will be fine this coming year. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad we didn't get Santana. I would rather see us make a trade for a big stick who can play 1st base. 12/8/2007 1:36:19 PM |

Torre mastered the art of handling the media frenzy in NY and Steinbrenner's stubbornness and all that bullshit. How do you think Girardi will fare in this sense? We all know from his stint in Florida that Girardi doesn't take crap from anyone. His personality is nearly a mirror-opposite from Torre's...

Quote : | "RHPs Humberto Sanchez and Andrew Brackman are making progress in their throwing programs after elbow ligament replacement surgery last year. Sanchez made 50 throws at 90 feet, and will increase his distance to 120 feet next week. He could be ready for minor league games in May.
Brackman, the Yankees' first round pick in the 2007 amateur draft, will make 50 throws at 90 feet for the first time Monday. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound right-hander from North Carolina State will not pitch this season. ... A video on a phone of Brackman being dunked on when he played college basketball made the rounds in the clubhouse. "It isn't fair," Brackman said with a smile." |

As a Yankees fan this is great to hear....
TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Andy Pettitte has spent the past few months answering questions about performance-enhancing drugs. He hardly looked distracted during his first spring training start.
With owner George Steinbrenner and his son, senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner, watching from a suite, Pettitte allowed an infield hit over two scoreless innings as the Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies played to a 7-7 tie Sunday. 3/3/2008 11:54:54 AM |

It's all good with Wang improving !
Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang is lined up to start on Opening Day against the Blue Jays, and he's set to unveil a new part of his repertoire -- an improved changeup. Though Wang always had the pitch in his bag, he rarely used it during his back-to-back 19-win seasons in 2006 and 2007. 3/6/2008 2:05:33 PM |

Hopefully more of this to come during the regular season....
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Andy Pettitte gave the New York Yankees exactly what they wanted: a pain-free start. Pettitte allowed three runs and three hits over 3 1-3 innings in the Yankees' 8-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Monday. The left-hander was scratched from his previous start Wednesday due to minor muscle irritation on the outside of his throwing elbow. "My arm felt good," Pettitte said after his 65-pitch outing. "Felt real good in the first. Got a little tired in the last inning. All in all, it was a good day for me." Kevin Youkilis hit a solo homer off Pettitte in the fourth. "I was happy with his performance," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "I had no concerns. He threw the ball very well. A couple extra days probably helped." Pettitte threw an inside fastball to David Ortiz in the third that prompted a brief stare from the designated Pussy. Bartolo Colon, making his second spring start for Boston, didn't make it out of the first. The right-hander gave up three hits and four runs in two-thirds of an inning. 3/17/2008 8:12:35 PM |

I'm so OVER Hank Steinbrenner. I'm a little young to remember the blustery version of George in the mid-80s. But Hank needs to just shut up.
Basically came out and called Girardi an idiot for putting Joba in the 'pen to start the year. As if FARNSWORTH would be a better choice setting up for Mo.

time to shop for a new Catcher? even though we've signed Posada to another 4 years, I think its time to move him to DH, drop Giambi, and get a strong arm behind the plate. 4/27/2008 4:51:45 PM |

The guy can still hit, there's no doubt about it. The four-year deal (to a 36-year-old catcher, no less) was questionable at best, unless they knew he wouldn't be catching much longer and there was a back-up plan.
I hope so. 4/27/2008 5:10:13 PM |

Hughes hurt... again. Has he ever stayed healthy for an entire year in his pro career?
Told you guys it was risky to have your fortunes on young arms. Mets tried it last year with Pelfrey and it bit them...
V he was hurt in the minors too a lot from what I recall... that is why they had him on that absurd pitch count of 75 for most of his starts in A and AA...

Well considering that's pretty much just last year and this year, and he's missed time in both, no.
I mean, it's not like I didn't know it was going to be rough with Hughes and Kennedy having to be such prominent contributors. But I think most people were at least expecting better than two wins in all of their appearances combined this season.

I am sick of this every fucking year the Yankees suck at the beginning of the season they get bit with the injury bug and then come June they are healthy.
The media writes them off in April and May and talks about their miraculous recovery in June. And losing Hughes isn't that big what was his record like 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA that was a mercy injury now you can bring Kei Igawa up.
This is the time the Sox should use to pull away instead of floundering themselves. The O's won't keep this up because their pen will start blowing games they are winning right now and the Rays don't have the talent to keep this up. Thus keeping the Yankees alive. 5/2/2008 1:56:03 PM |
