"and for showers, you can install one of those water conservation shower heads...it's like a mist, but it gets you just as wet.

when heating up water, put it on a low stream and not a fast hard stream. it will heat up just the same.

if you have a water to air a/c...turn off your ac on cooler nights and open those windows!

stop using the garbage disposal in your sink--it requires a lot of water to dispose of the food. make a compost pile instead (which is a benefit in itself for the soil!)
in addition, if you start using paper plates and cups (non glossy and no prints on them though, just plain old paper plates) you can put these in your compost pile which will save on water needed to do dishes.

if you're going to take a bath, go ahead and plug the drain as you fill the tub...once the water gets hot, it will heat up the amount of cold that first gets put in the tub basin.
"

Not sure if I follow the bolded one.
When you leave your water off for a long time, all the water in the hot line cools down. When you want to get more hot water, you must first evacuate all the cool water from the line - all 50 feet of 1/2" pipe. It really doesn't matter if you do it slowly or quickly, the same amount of cool water must be evacuated before hot water gets to the faucet.
Perhaps if you do it slowly then you'll be able to react more quickly when the hot water finally does come out and you won't leave the hot water running down the drain for 10 seconds... But other than that, that doesn't make any sense.

I want to know why NC State can water their plants with sprinklers over by Reynolds. I see it every Monday and Wednesday morning and it goes on for over an hour and a half. We are supposed to be conserving water, so NC State should too.

99 days of water are left, 99 days of water. Take one down, pass it around, 98 days of water are left.

if raleigh runs out of water, just blame me. i left my shower running for 12 hours because I passed out right after I turned it on last night.

I heard that Cary is talking about selling some of their water to cities experiencing a severe shortage.

This thread title is going to be impossible to keep current. Tomorrow I am going to make "About 97 days of water left for Raleigh residents" and probably get suspended.

doesn't Le Bleu or some company get their bottled water from Falls lake too? I recall hearing something like this but I could be totally wrong. I wonder if they have stopped during this shortage.

I dunno about you, but for me this would cause more water usage, if you know what I mean.

And I think you do.

don't think NCSU recycles water for irrigation as they just announced they would halt irrigation and winterize their system in the technician today. however, they should recycle graywater. currently they just return it to raleigh wastewater system

gotta love the quotes in today's technician about water conservation

What is the most drastic thing you would do to conserve water?

"I would take shorter showers" - Alexander Innes, Junior, Computer Science

"Instead of using water to wash clothes, I'd use Coke." William Lampe, Freshman, Industrial Engineering

"I wouldn't run the dishwasher." Dusty Quattlebaum, Freshman, Sports Management

"I wouldn't shower, brush my teeth, or drink bottled water." Priya Gondhalekar, Freshman, Animal Science

What the hell, 2 years ago New Orleans had a major surplus of water and people were bitching. Now we are low on water and people continue with the bitchin'... make up your damn minds!

the main way people can save water is by treating grass like it's a fucking decoration, and not a neccessity.

Business water use needs to cut back as much as residential use.

Nah, not likely. Cary is a much better place to live in terms of being a resident than Raleigh. It's cleaner, less crime, better managed (not that that's saying much), etc.

I guess in that case most of them in EB2 have already been doing their part to conserve water for quite some time now.

Cary is a wonderful place to live. You can't judge it until you've actually lived there.

Everyone I've met from Cary is from New Jersey. Just saying.

Supposedly the one bad thing is that the months we are coming up on are this part of the country's "dry season".

My city, Rocky Mount, has been on Stage 2 water restrictions for a couple weeks now. We're setting up a line to buy water from Wilson.

Cary charges for its (one) dog park. Raleigh's three dog parks are all free and well maintained.

How dare they make you pay for your own pet and not tax everyone to pay for the luxury of a dog park.

So what about people that snitch on their neighbors for watering? Justified?

Do people really need to snitch?
Its rather obvious.. all the people obeying the watering restrictions have brown grass, the ones that dont have green grass

Pretty much any grass that didn't die in the drought is going to be green right now. It can look dead as a doorknob, but give it a little water like the rain we had last week and it will spring back like nothing happened.

I'm guessing you haven't been out much lately, huh?
