I love my Athena (running Win6.l with the PPC Kitchen) and have seriously thought about a Mogul. I REALLY want the fucking TyTn II though, but no CDMA version of that out yet that I can buy. So no TyTn for me.
And thanks Apple fanboi but I need a business phone, hence why I have an HTC. Not your little toy phone. I love being able to remote into my desktop computer from my phone, or even get on my network switches and APs on my phone. Can your iPhone do that? Didn't think so.

Skype is a nice feature to have as well. Just find a WiFi connection and run skype to make calls from Japan. Only used it once, but the ability was nice.
The feature I use more often is to share my cellular line internet connection among a car full of geeks by turning the phone into a WiFi router without having to sign up for a phone-as-modem service.

any of you use the email function?
im getting annoyed by my sent mail showing up as new mail on my mogul.
when i email someone, it pops up as an unread mail. i read somewhere how you can disable it using the gmail folders, but it was for another phone, and i also forgot where the site was.
anyone fix this little issue? 8/5/2008 3:14:40 PM |

I use gmail on my mogul but it does not do that. Maybe your versions are out of date? What ROM are you using? 8/5/2008 6:09:02 PM |
baonest All American 47902 Posts user info edit post |
i am using the newest rom..
im talking about the mogul email. where you press that envelope on the top left and it goes to text message/outlook/setup email.
i have my gmail setup like that, so i get updates on emails without having to goto internet explorer and log in.
but the problem is that when i send an email, whether its through mogul email, or through gmail.com, it always sends an email to my mogul email. and the email is of the one i just sent.
kinda confusing i guess 8/5/2008 9:02:14 PM |
OmarBadu zidik 25071 Posts user info edit post |
i have multiple email accounts setup
i think mine used to do that when i had gmail setup as a pop account
you should just use imap - to do so you can't let gmail autoconfigure itself - you have to mistype your email address (name@gmail.co - leave out a letter) - then save it - then go back and edit it once you have it setup
i'm not sure what you mean though by "mogul email" 8/5/2008 9:14:28 PM |
LoneSnark All American 12317 Posts user info edit post |
Well then, perhaps it is a bug in the WM 6.1 ROM. I am using the built in email function for gmail and it works perfectly, even supporting automated mail generation by background programs. 8/5/2008 9:15:15 PM |
baonest All American 47902 Posts user info edit post |
^^ yeah, by mogul mail i mean the emails that are setup through the mogul. not actually going online to gmail.com
ill try the imap thingy 8/5/2008 10:04:28 PM |

just a FYI...
if your mogul screws up, DO NOT GET A REFURB.
my mogul froze twice, like 3 weeks ago.. then my keyboard would double and triple post some letters at random... i took it in and they said it was defected.
i got the first refurb, same thing with the keyboard and it was so flimsy and just crappy feeling. it would take me like 30 mins to type an email or text because i would have to keep backspacing the double/triple letters.
so i took that in the next day... then a few days later my 2nd refurb (3rd phone total) came in and right away, same keyboard issue. i didnt even bother going back to the store, i called sprint... this was last friday... someone was suppose to get back to me within 4 hours, between 10am-2pm,.. i didnt get a call til the next saturday at 10am... where i was busy and had to call back.. after 3 attempts, i finally reach a hispanic guy (this was suppose to be customer relations or something like that).. and the guy just plain sucked.. i told him that i wanted a brand new mogul, not a refurb.. he said ok and kept trying to sell me another phone. long story short, i got transfered around to 4 different people until i got ahold of the insurance company, when my phones battery died.
i had a full battery at the beginning of the day, or near ful.. was probably on the phone with them for a good 5-6 hours total. finally i call back sunday and complete the deal on getting a brand new phone from insurance.. and got some decent compensation too..
they gave me 6 free months of TeleNav $50 credit towards the insurance pay ($50 is the whole thing) and half off this months bill (we have like 5 lines on a plan) <-- this was after the very first lady finally called me back from saturday morning and i just told her how much they suck. she agreed and was nice about it..
so yeah, im sure all of you know the dealings with sprint..
all i wanted was a mogul.. the phone is awesome, i did not want any other phone, just a NEW one.
so the new one just came in today, and voila, no probs at all... i kept telling them to just send me a new one, and if that one messes up then i will think about a whole different phone.

mine does this in google maps :/
I called an iCare rep to try and get free first incomming added to my SERO 500 plan, failed. Tried to get Pick 3 (Fav 5) failed. I ended up getting the old sero plan for 49.99 with 1250 minutes.
Basically I get a 30 dollar credit every month from my employer to cover cell phone overages. 500 minutes was NOT cutting it. 20 bucks a month won't be bad at all though.

My keyboard does the repeat character thing too I didnt buy my mogul brand new.. will sprint still replace it for me? 10/8/2008 9:33:32 AM |
baonest All American 47902 Posts user info edit post |
as long as its under warranty.
you guys need to call them and let them know. they had no prior record of this until i called.
so call them, and say that you've read online that this is a "recall"... make something up. tell them its not just yours. it was just this past weekend incase you need a date.
dial *2 (if you're with sprint) and talk to customer service. if the actual phone is less than a year old, then it should still be covered. and def. ask for a brand new one. and try to get sprint to cover the $50 deductible 10/8/2008 9:43:07 AM |

warranty replacement should be separate from an insurance claim and not carry a deductible. I don't currently have TEP on my line though. 10/8/2008 2:23:31 PM |

if its under warranty, then you take it to the store, and most likely (like 95% of the time) you'll get a refurb. with insurance you'll have a much better chance of getting a new one cuz of the $$ you'll give them,
at least thats what i experience..
and im not sure about software issues.
all 3 of the bad phones had the latest rom, 3.56 (i think)... even before i upgraded rom it was doing that. this new phone i got, i upgraded to 3.56 yesterday and has worked very well. no issues at all. it had to of been some sort of keyboard malfunctions 10/8/2008 8:36:39 PM |

I have been through 4 replacement moguls via sprint. The first one I had destroyed from various software applications, and decided to just swap out. Then, I got into the refurb loop. All the refurbs are POS, each one having a worse problem than the previous.
Recently, Sprint changed/enforced their insurance policy, and now if there is any physical damage to the phone you have to pay a $50 deductible and deal with the insurance company. After dealing with some BS bc of my sketchy apartment address, they shipped me a brand new mogul in the new packaging with all new accessories.
The phone came preloaded with the new WM6.1, and the phone runs better than it ever has. Has anyone had issues using PAM with the new rom? On the old rom I was able to easily connect my desktop/ worklaptop to the internet through the USB, but now I get the data error. 10/8/2008 10:05:24 PM |

you got a new phone because of a software issue? did you hard reset it first? that may have stopped you from having 5 phones...i have my original mogul from july 2007
do you have a PAM plan or are you trying to use something like pdanet? i can't remember 100% but i believe with the original rom PAM plans were just becoming a reality and there was a loophole that wasn't locked down that now is - it's still possible to tether and there are multiple options - try reading ppcgeeks.com under the titan forum 10/8/2008 10:11:39 PM |

I had performed several reformats, and I also had this small white spot on the screen. I found out later that this is a very common defect that occurs, and virtually all of them develop it after some time (assume theres something that runs hot in that area on the phone).
One of the replacement phones had a faulty keyboard, and other had issues with sliding the screen. I cracked the screen on another replacement phone when I bumped a table. Then that replacement was just inundated with issues, and I finally took it in when I cracked another screen (I now use the case).
I am happy though, it is nice having a brand new phone, and I am not installing any applications other than Slick. 10/8/2008 10:31:56 PM |

yeah you should read some of the forums before giving up though - you have to use a forwarded to fix that issue - i use gpsgate - it's a known issue with some applications on the mogul that don't prep the gps properly 10/11/2008 4:21:32 PM |

the next version to come out will more than likely solve the problem but it's really not a huge deal to fix - i have just changed the shortcut to iguidance to a mortscript shortcut that starts gpsgate and then starts iguidance right after it
i think iguidance is better than anything else out there

I want Windows Mobile 6.1 on my XV6900. I told Verizon I was going to firebomb their store if they didn't give me the update, and they didn't give me the update. My lawyer says I shouldn't finish the rest of this story. Has anyone manually patched their XV6900 to 6.1 and not bricked it? It's a bit expensive to be bricking, so I want something vaguely resembling confirmation before I do this 10/12/2008 6:29:18 AM |
