The problem isn't that you can't understand what we're saying, but that nobody does the NC State part at the same speed. So it sounds like a big mess after a few times through.

I have only heard the N-C-STATE cheer once and that was while we were on the court after beating carolina this past year. It sounded glorious.

See that's the type of attitude that some of State's 'good ole boy' students hold - crappy old ideas from our student base that think this is hot or something. lol. They think its all unique and powerful sounding, but in sports trying to be fancy like chuck's gay shoes isn't getting us anything but ridicule....and it sounds ridiculous, forget how inaudible it is over broadcasts and how generally limp and uncoordinated it sounds.

Wish list of Top 5 Pack-related sporting event things to get rid of:


1. WITH. Wolfpack in the House: This slogan is terrible, from the 90s 'ya'll ready for this', embarrassing, corny, and when they use it in the basketball game for tipoffs, it's the most uncomfortable moment right afterwards when the audio sample dies out sharply and you're left hearing just squeaky shoes and a small din of the crowd. Just plain silly....let's drop it.

2. NNNNNNN CCCCCCC STTTTAAATE NC STATE. For all the reasons discussed in this thread, as we've proven that 98% of all Non state fans think this is terrible, well over 60-70% of even NCSTATE Fans and Alums themselves think this is terrible. Do away with it, because by the numbers we are operating on student base intertia at sporting events.

3. Old McDonald Had a Farm at the end of Basketball games. Yes, I know what you are about to say - we play this to mock people who try to make fun of us for being an Ag school. But, wait a sec - how does this mock anyone but ourselves again? How does this not perpertuate the stupid and old hat perception that state is only a good Ag school? I'm proud of this universities varied academia - specifically technical in engineering, computer science, design, and even our humanities have improved significantly.

4. Alma mater with absolutely no words except 'NC STATE' at the end. Not much to say other than bush league. I mean, come on student clubs, distribute these words!!! At least get as sentence or two right - you know how pathetic this sounds?

5 .Move the chains, Move the chains, WOOF WOOF WOOF. I don't even need to comment on this one...you guys say this is just the West side in CF doing this with old alumni, but tell me why I hear tons of students doing it at every game?

i agree with all 5 of those points. i can sorta see the nnnnnn ccccc staaate thing working for basketball games, it sounds better in the arena when its done right(but i still dont like it). at football games its retarded. ive been to other schools games, and i dont hear anything so dragged out and ridiculous sounding.

during the past 4 years of never missing a home game and always being in the student section, i have never heard that chant, ever.

i've only ever heard it in the alumni section on the press box side

I for one like the Nnnnnnnn Ccccccccc State, NC STATE cheer, it sound better to me than cheers that some other colleges do (i.e. the schools that spell something out then shout their school abbreviation... sounds like nothing more than a bunch of "uh" and "huu" syllables strung together). Our cheer would be fine if everyone in the stadium (student section specifically) wasn't completely musically/rhythmically incompetent. Hype doesn't mean seeing how fast you can shout or clap. Do the shit right or let the people who know how to do it do it.

I don't think that's true at all - I personally think we are very unorganized, the wolfpack club is poor and not very innovative, and we are just clinging to what we know. They haven't tried to do something new, and our students are clearly going to do what's familiar and say it's tradition. But that isn't a long standing tradition, being that it started a couple of years back. It's not hard to have a chant like this survive on pure inertia - as we know students spark nearly every cheer at any sporting event, and the rest of the crowd joins in on it. that's how it works....and everyone else joins for lack of choice, but they still want to be involved.

It's like going to a sushi restaurant, not knowing the variety because you haven't been exposed to it, and getting the california roll. I dunno, I'll stop arguing about it, everything that could be said has been said. I'ts not just the internet boards, I've heard tons and tons of people IRL say the same thing.

Yeah, just wanted to point out that this isn't even slightly true - the chant is less than 10 years old and begun with the semi-tolerable version from the band. Previously, as in, when we won National Championships, N - C - State was the standard cheer with some other randomness usually started by the student sections.

While this new version might be more creative, it sounds like crap in the stadium and even worse when viewed on national TV broadcasts, and yes, how we are viewed by the rest of the nation does in fact matter to our alumni and recruits, who do care a good deal, whether or not you care to admit it.

That is a really illogical and stupid post. Sorrry twister, but this isn't high school. You want your chants to strike impact to the team on the other sidelines, visiting fans, TV viewers of all sides - NCSU, our competing team fans tuning in, media, recruits, and even our OWN team and fans at the game, etc. Why the hell does it not involve anything but all of that? This isn't like some secret club!

Besides, most of the criticism is coming from Pack fans who hated it, but whose impression is CONFIRMED by outside opinion on it. It shows that when you take off your ruby shoes, it's objectively kinda gay.
