Where do you live? That is a pretty damn expensive mortgage for a college/post-college aged kid... And how are your utilities so low if your mortgage is that high too? That's less utilities than I paid for in a 765 sq ft 1 BR apartment...

Why on gods earth would anyone pay $300 in HOA fees with a $1300 mortgage?

It would appear that it's the food that's getting you. Buy microwavable stuff in bulk. It's not as good, but you save money and don't have to spend a lot of time preparing it.

Not to mention what the fuck kind of neighborhood HOA charges $300/month. My parents live in a pretty upper class community in the Bay Area and that is about what they get charged per YEAR.

This isn't bitching about HOAs dumbass, it's bitching about paying $300 month living in a place where the mortgage is $1300 month.
It's like spending several hundred dollars on the super ultra deluxe detail job on your '89 accord monthly. Why? 10/25/2007 4:48:31 PM

What does that $400 a month include? How much is your mortgage? 10/25/2007 5:22:49 PM

it includes keeping the pool and grounds nice and clean, maintenance on the building and other structures, complimentary valet parking (although i still tip them cause I'm sure they don't get paid a lot) and discounted dry cleaning services. 10/25/2007 5:25:28 PM

I pay $33 month for grounds and pool in one neighborhood and $40 month in the other. Granted, the townhouse folks I think pay closer to $75 because they get the immediate area around their property landscaped/mowed, etc. But $400, thats just stupid. 10/25/2007 5:32:44 PM

it's not stupid
i probably live in an area that has a higher cost of living, and also probably live in a more expensive building that has higher operating costs, amenities, and higher expected financial contributions of its tenants, of whom many are very financially well off. 10/25/2007 5:37:21 PM

regarding the $300/mo for HOA - he's mentioned previously that it's temporarily raised because of a large lawsuit that happened recently
not including savings and investment stuff - somewhere in the 4-4.5k range depending on the month for me and the wife ]] 10/25/2007 5:49:18 PM
