so looks like we'll be moving to philly for a couple of months to be near Children's hospital of philadelphia.
We'll be staying in a high-rise at Rittenhouse Square.
looks like it's pretty non-ghetto any thoughts?
the hospital asked us to be there by july 9, so we had to find something quick, i put down $200 sight unseen... i feel like i'm playing russian roulette with being scammed, but that's so not top of mind right now... 6/16/2014 1:02:11 AM |

You made the right decision by living there as opposed to out near chop. 6/16/2014 7:16:54 AM |

Please DO NOT go to any CHAIN restaurants while in Philadelphia. There are tons of great local places to eat. Depending on what you are looking for go on yelp and you can find something. Great restaurants in the Rittenhouse area, Olde City, Northern Libs, and really all around Center City. Same with drinking spots.
Also Cheesesteaks avoid Pats and Genos. Jim's, Tony Lukes, Steaks on South, etc. Plenty of better locations than the touristy Pats and Genos. 7/10/2014 11:01:34 PM |

^^^you've gotta hit up Monk's Cafe. It's better than Eulogy imo
Also, Pats cheese steaks suck. It's not worth the line. If you must go, note that it's cash only. Gino's sucks too. Just stay away from tourist cheese steak spots. There's a bar that's kinda cool right there called the Garage though.

Wow how is it better? I haven't been, but it sounds like I need to check it out. 7/11/2014 2:03:30 PM |

they have a better variety of mussels. they also brew their own beer in Belgium and import it to the cafe (it's sold in Raleigh, too).
I guess I shouldn't say better, but different. Better food menu and food (though Eulogy is great too) but it's more of a divey kind of bar you'd find in Europe. Eulogy gets crazy packed and is more of an "it" spot.
They're both very good and I try to go to both when I'm in town. 7/11/2014 3:07:55 PM |

Just went to Philly for first time on business about two weeks ago. Only tourist trip I had time for was a visit to Independence Hall - definitely a must see if you're a history buff. As for dining, if you like Italian at all, please for the love of God go to Monsu and eat everything on their menu. Possibly the best meal I've ever had.

hah, i never checked back in on this thread after i left.
I was 3 blocks from Monk's Cafe, and probably went there at least 3 times a week. One of the best beer joints I've ever been. They regularly had Pliny the Elder on tap. 9/25/2014 12:54:09 PM |
