^^I haven't read biographies or anything, but I think a lot of them were good friends. But I think DAC was a different story and burned too many bridges too many times. I remember hearing (I'm thinking it must have been Waylon that said) something like "DAC loves to drop-names of other outlaws in his songs, but he'll stab you in the back in a second".

I think this is why DAC is hardly even mentioned (or may not be at all) in Ken Burns Country Music documentary (which reminds me, I need to watch that again soon).

I think something similar happened with Johnny Paycheck.

(I'm not claiming to be an expert on this stuff)

And there is good "modern" country out there, it's just not the popular stuff that makes it on the radio and wins CMAs (with the exception of Stapleton). Sturgill Simpson is great, Tyler Childers, Ian Noe, Charlie Parr, Margo Price, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile.....

DAC is a piece of shit person who absolutely overstates his place in country music history. He rode other people's coattails while believing he's the main attraction. Compared to Waylon/Willie/Kris/etc he was just a background character in the country music landscape - a songwriter who wrote a couple hits.

imo, DAC wrote a lot of good songs, not just his hits. But yeah, shitty person (but I did go see him play a lot in the early 2000s).

and to be fair, JP was an accused pedophile, he was never convicted of that statutory rape in 1981 (according to wiki)

It reminded me of Timber by Pitbull and Kesha lol. not really country, but cowboy themed.

a lot of "country" music nowadays is pop-y anyways.
you know that heuristic, "The purpose of a system is what it does". I feel like that applies here.
at the end of the day all these young folk are gonna sit in the back of their cars listening to morgan wallen and beyonce dreaming about whatever is going on and whatever is gonna happen
why bother yourself over nothing. especially to these outrage culture folk who think they're smarter than everyone else, if you are, then why bother yourself with the opinions of a bunch of 20 year old women
