So if an engineer sees a UFO lands and films it...that's believable. But if a Test pilot/Astronaut sees one..he's got psychological problems? No "kooky" engineers out there?

Are all alien spaceships made out of the same thing as the Space Shuttle? Could they be designed from a material that disintegrates subtly if there's ever a problem? I hope, among the thousands that saw the Shuttle break-up, none were cops, pilots or astronauts...since apparently anything they see doesn't count.

Aliens were threatening to take over the world in the late 40s. We discovered their plot and invented the neutron bomb as our only defense against them. It has the capability to destroy the entire planet which would make it worthless for them to invade us. They've since embarked on a stealth mission to take over the Earth. It involves bases in Antartica, bees, and GM viruses used against us.

Not really, most of that stuff came from The X-Files movie.

Personally, I think UFOs are real. I have absolutely no idea what is inside of them or who controls them, but there's too much evidence (whether you believe it or not) and the concept of UFOs has been around too long for me to not believe in them. The government is definitely involved in some way at some level and they don't want to public to know about it. They're just way too secretive about everything and every explanation they come up with to explain these things are completely bullshit.

the concept of dragons has been around for 10x as long as dragons dont exist. just saying the concept has been around so long that that something has to exist is idiotic. the government is terrible at keeping anything secretive, ESPECIALLY for decades upon decades. So im completely and 100% convinced that the government hasnt been keeping anything from the public in regards to UFOs.

Does life exist somewhere else in the universe, intelligent life? Im 100% certain it does. The universe is too big not to have it. Have they been here? I wouldnt doubt it, tho I cant say for sure. Do we have ANY solid evidence? I havent seen one piece of it yet.

I'm not even convinced that half the other life out there would be noticeable as such to humans.

Dragons are mostly a translation thing that represents huge lizards. Example: Komodo dragons. They're not dragons in the way they've been depicted to us, but they are huge lizards that can kill people. Other things that could be dragons... crocodiles, aliigators, animals like that. Although, true dragons could have possibly existed. I can't say for certain.

The concept of flying objects in the sky is a little harder to lose in translation though, as manmade flying objects have only been around for about 100 years. The length of time that UFOs have been around and the fact that they're recognized by civilizations that never met kind of makes it a hard phenomenon to ignore.

I wouldn't count on that if I were you. That some things get leaked doesn't mean everything does. The government has actually done well at keeping certain things secret. Consider the development of the atomic bomb, for example.

The government itself says otherwise.

you use an example of a 5-year, completely self-contained project that was always meant to go public at some point.
The government hiding UFO or alien technology would entail decades of secrets across multiple administrations, countless budget cuts and realignments, huge technology advances, etc, not to mention all information would be initiated externally to the government (as opposed to internally with the Manhattan Project), thereby making it considerably more difficult to control all the information

Sure, it's not exactly the same. But the government hides all sorts of things. Yes, redacted and patchy reports often come out decades after the fact. That in no way suggests leaks are inevitable and secrecy impossible.

Well, the UFOlogists would say that government hasn't controlled all the information. Various bits of evidence, including from government documents, hint at the conspiracy. I see no reason to conclude aliens have been here, but I bet certain officials know much more about the UFO phenomenon than we do.

Well, it'd take infinite energy to accelerate an object to the speed of light.

That's a bit of problem.

Exactly, you cannot accelerate past the speed of light, but you can travel faster than it. There is a HUGE difference between saying "You can't travel faster than light" and "You can't accelerate to ftl speeds"

Maybe, but most of the suggested ways to travel faster than light would be extremely difficult to pull off. Wormholes, for example:

Quote :
"But sending a person would be another thing. To keep the wormhole open wide enough would take a negative field equivalent to the energy that would be liberated by converting the mass of Jupiter."

yeah, well as usual, UFOlogists and conspiracy theorists want it both ways. On the one hand, they like to say that the government is full of evil geniuses and clandestine ops, maintaining secrets and programs with pinpoint precision. On the other hand, the government is run by bumbling fools who can't keep a secret to save their lives.

this technique is very, very common among conspiracy theorists - no matter what happens, it's further "proof" of their cause. If the government leaks, shares, or makes public information, then it's proof that they have further information they're not sharing. But if the government does nothing, or even denies knowledge or involvement in a coverup, then that again is more proof that we're being lied to because otherwise it wouldn't "make sense"

^ What I don't understand is why people seem to declare as either believers or skeptics. You must have experience arguing with UFO fans. I think the evidence suggests something strange is going on. I don't have an explanation. I doubt extraterrestrial visits are the answer, but I won't dismiss it all as a bunch of nonsense either.

Seriously dude? You still miss the point. In the case of a recent, REAL event, it didn't matter at all. No one had a damn clue about what actually happened until much later after a ridiculous amount of investigation had been done.

There are no space ships. There ARE a lot of people with mediocre boring lives who see what they want to see and are happy to have their 10 seconds in the limelight as a result. If anything it's all the retards that make the claims and retards like you who believe the claims that make any REAL science of finding extraterrestrial life such rough going.

i find it interesting that some people who try to explain the lack of evidence for ufos just attribute it to unimaginable hyper-advanced technology that we can't possibly comprehend. sounds a lot like people that argue for the existence of god.

maybe god and his arch angels are piloting the ufos.

If they have such advanced technology and still managed to crash at Roswell, I don't know what to think. Something odd happened there in 1947, but I doubt aliens were involved. Seriously, how embarrassing would it be cross light-years and then eat dirt? Everyone else in the universe would make fun of you.

"STEPHENVILLE, Texas - In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.

Several dozen people — including a pilot, county constable and business owners — insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."

While federal officials insist there's a logical explanation, locals swear that it was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane. They also said the object's lights changed configuration, unlike those of a plane. People in several towns who reported seeing it over several weeks have offered similar descriptions of the object.

Machinist Ricky Sorrells said friends made fun of him when he told them he saw a flat, metallic object hovering about 300 feet over a pasture behind his Dublin home. But he decided to come forward after reading similar accounts in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.

"You hear about big bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal," Sorrells said. "It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I'm not crazy."

Sorrells said he has seen the object several times. He said he watched it through his rifle's telescopic lens and described it as very large and without seams, nuts or bolts.

Maj. Karl Lewis, a spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, said no F-16s or other aircraft from his base were in the area the night of Jan. 8, when most people reported the sighting.

Lewis said the object may have been an illusion caused by two commercial airplanes. Lights from the aircraft would seem unusually bright and may appear orange from the setting sun.

"I'm 90 percent sure this was an airliner," Lewis said. "With the sun's angle, it can play tricks on you."

Officials at the region's two Air Force bases — Dyess in Abilene and Sheppard in Wichita Falls — also said none of their aircraft were in the area last week. The Air Force no longer investigates UFOs.

One man has offered a reward for a photograph or videotape of the mysterious object.

About 200 UFO sightings are reported each month, mostly in California, Colorado and Texas, according to the Mutual UFO Network, which plans to go to the 17,000-resident town of Stephenville to investigate.

Fourteen percent of Americans polled last year by The Associated Press and Ipsos say they have seen a UFO.

Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan said that he first saw red glowing lights and then white flashing lights moving fast, but that even with binoculars could not see the object to which the lights were attached.

"I didn't see a flying saucer and I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an airplane, and I've never seen anything like it," Gaitan said. "I think it must be some kind of military craft — at least I hope it was.""

I read that story earlier.....when you have so many people seeing the same thing at the same time it's got to be something out of the ordinary. Maybe not something from space, but something.

yes, out of the ordinary. And people collectively have a very hard time of coming to reasonable explanations for things that they don't see every day.

If that thing in Texas or where ever was so big and was seen by so many people, fine - let's see some pictures and videos. 90% of people have a camera-phone in their pocket at all times and probably 10-20% have a decent digital still/video camera with them as well. Let's see some evidence!

And there often are completely reasonable explainations for strange sightings, but "believers" will just dismiss them anyway. The "phoenix light incident" in the 90's, where thousands of people saw strange colored lights in the sky around Phoenix before they "twinkled out" has been conclusively proven and admitted to by the military, and even by the pilot who flew the plane that dropped the flares. But no, of course he's just part of the conspiracy.

As with the Phoenix Lights and whatever people see in the night sky, the general line is "it was unworldly", or "there's no way something manmade could have looked like that." Oh really? WTF would you know about what is "worldly"? it's like - wow, there were some lights in the sky that formed a triangle and moved quickly. OMG HUMANS AREN'T CAPABLE OF DOING THAT!
Same with crop circles. Even after countless crop circles have been created and documented exactly how they were made, people still say "humans just aren't capable of making something so perfect" give me a fucking break. 1) they really don't give determined pranksters enough credit, and 2) they are usually not in the position to be making such statements anyway.

Military now says planes flying in area of UFO reports.
AP 1-23-2008

FORT WORTH — So much for aliens in Texas dairy country.

At least that's what the military said today, reporting that 10 F-16 fighter jets were training in the Stephenville area the night dozens of residents reported seeing a UFO.

Although Air Force Reserve officials at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station in Fort Worth initially said none of their planes were in the area Jan. 8, they said today that they had made a mistake and wanted to set the record straight "in the interest of public awareness."

Some residents aren't buying it, though, saying the military's revelation actually bolsters their claims because several reported seeing at least two fighter jets chasing an object.

"This supports our story that there was UFO activity in that area," said Kenneth Cherry, the Texas director of the Mutual UFO Network, which took more than 50 reports from locals at a meeting last weekend. "I find it curious that it took them two weeks to 'fess up. I think they're feeling the heat from the publicity."

From well-respected business owners to a county constable, several dozen people swear that what they saw was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane. They also said the object's lights changed configuration, unlike those of a plane.

"I guarantee that what we saw was not a civilian aircraft," Steve Allen, a pilot and freight company owner, said today."

Well at least the gov't didn't say it was "Swamp Gas"
