Anyone know anything about Salt Water Fly Fishing? My wife is wanting to learn how, and I was thinking about buying her a rod/reel to get her started. 3/4/2008 4:12:48 PM |

3^ I've heard something about rigging up a heavy surf rod with a dead shad/spot/blue/anything and steal leader at night on the surf and shark fishing...anyone ever try that?
Some guys were trying that in EI while me and some friends were walking/drinking on the beach and it seemed interresting...didn't know about any legal issues or anything, but sounds like saltwater catfishing...so I could be down! 3/6/2008 1:45:20 PM |

aww killing sharks is lame. Shark fishing is fun though. It's funny to watch people be like "zomg, I was just swimming with those. " Just remember the 54" minimum size and Quote : | "One (1) Atlantic sharpnose (no minimum size) and one bonnethead (no minimum size) per person per trip may be landed in addition to allowable bag limits for other sharks." |

^ haha....yeah I remember surfing around the bogue inlet pier all day and later on around 5:00 or so my dad was asking me if I saw anything they pulled up from the pier and I hadn't...they ended up landing 2 ~4-5ft. sharks that day near the end of the pier!! he said he was going to wave me in but I was having too much fun

ha, we've caught 6ft and bigger down on oak island during the day. 4+ footers is like a daily occurrence down there. All of the tourists looked scared shitless. I'd love to see the one that had the big ass mouth that manhandled my citation sized king a couple years back. They'd definitely have a heart attack if they saw what we've hooked and had break off at night though. 3/9/2008 9:12:41 PM |

we've seen an ocean sunfish glide under the boat while anchored about 100miles off the coast of north tampa once
the 18hr trips usually get 60-70 guys on it, it's not so bad though since it's mostly veteran head boat fisherman who won't tangle your shit it like all the tourists on the 8-12hr trips do...it's a mad rush to the back of the boat though 3/9/2008 9:20:58 PM |

yeah, now everybody and their brother fishes there. I've probably fished Ocean Crest since '01 and the first couple years, there were maybe 10 people out there at the most. New owners took over and it got out that it's one of the best kingfishing spots on the east cost and all hell has broken loose since. 3/9/2008 9:30:06 PM |

Not in a long time. I've heard that when the shad are running you can catch a lot up around Battle Park.

So is anyone fishing tomorrow? Is anything biting up at Weldon or anywhere around here for that matter? I might try to grab some friends and head up there if anything is biting this time of year.
Y'all know that massive house right by the river across from the soccer fields in Weldon? The top story of that house had this huge room, maybe it was originally a ballroom back in the 1700's or whatever. Anyway, back in the day I met some folks who knew the kid whose parents owned that house and we skateboarded up there a couple of times. There were some rails and ramps up in the third story. It was pretty tight and his parents were cool to let us hang out there.

Never been to Blount's, but I'm trying to hit up more Eastern NC spots now that I have access to a 15' Carolina Skiff. I'll check it out sometime.

shad are being caught pretty steady in the roanoke (at least up to weldon, probably farther), tar (greenville and farther), neuse (caught a lot around goldsboro, heard of a couple all the way in raleigh already), and the cape fear (not sure how far up they've made it). 3/14/2008 11:22:47 PM |
