well, i live in a place way out in the sticks, and was having a shitload of problems with verizon for like a whole fuckin week. normally, my service is good enough to make calls in the right spots, which suits me well enough. for that week, those spots i used for 9 months disappeared and i couldnt get service. and it was only in like the 2 mile radius from where i lived. outside of that, everything was normal. i also have the wireless internet for my computer, and it went out with the cell simultaneously.

tech support is a joke to begin with. but anyway, just wanted to add that you can also evidently get out of your verizon contract if you are in an area that receives "marginal" to no service, without penalty. i didnt end my contract, because i figured they'd fix it, which they didnt. somehow it fixed itself. but if it becomes a problem that comes up again and again, at some point i WILL terminate my contract.

I've got Verizon, but I hate their software. Its totally retarded that the phone I had almost 10 years ago had easier to use features. And that stupid mobile web thing has a button which is all to easy to push. I want to see more of a seperation between software on the phone and cell-phone service because the way its set up now is completely a self-serving scam engineered to get you to pay for services you don't need or want.

Despite my petty complaints I will stay with them because I've got a deal with some relatives which cuts the costs to $25 a month and we never go over. I can't beat it for now.

Verizon upped their per-message text price, effective March 2, 2008.

this constitutes an "adverse material change" to the contract that I entered for wireless service with them

today i just exercised my right to break the contract with Verizon -- without any Early Termination Fee -- due to their failure to follow their own contract.

it was quite easy. i was surprised.

now i have new phones and a new plan from AT&T and I didnt get penalized for terminating my Verizon plan 6 months early.

that is all...

sweet..so I'm guessing you went ahead and ported your stuff before this call, as per your message ^^^?

yes.

port before you cancel.

otherwise you may lose your #'s.

actually you could just call and get your contract ended...stay with the provider until you pick a new provider or find a good deal...theoretically?

the way i understand it, if you call and cancel your service, its over. if you havent already ported your #'s, they are released back to the cloud. they are at risk of being reassigned and/or locked out.

for what it's worth, i have on a number of occasions later realized "the way i understood" something was dead ass wrong.

i'm just telling what happened to me, that it verifies other reports of people canceling their service.

i'm in the situation where the contract on my service ends in the beginning of may...

it's either att or stay with verizon

leaning towards att

now im back with at&t (aka cingular) and i already see how much better it is.

but im on the west coast. maybe the east coast is different experience.
