this is annoying me...they didn't HAVE to change the way the confessor's powers worked
and the sisters of light are the most awesome people in the world?
fuck.

First 7 episodes are on Hulu. As far as fantasy tv shows go, it's probably one of the best if not the best. Granted, it's not got a lot of better competition than Xena and Hercules. As far as following the books? Yeah not so much, but Terry Goodkind acknowledged that it needed to be very different in an open letter and I don't have a problem divorcing the TV series from the novels. 12/12/2008 3:48:16 AM |

Ooooh I liked Denna. the outfit was hot. Glad she's still alive... it gives me hope for the white blade and the book of shadows stuff.
I didnt like that the mord sith weren't very scared of the confessors tho. 1/11/2009 4:39:39 PM |

I really liked the episode "puppeteer" from about a week ago. I actually liked how that was handled better than in the book- since the wizard character involved was effectively a throw-away in that case. Anyways, it was really well done and the acting seemed much better than the acting in the latest episode. I think that may have something to do with the seeker and confessor playing a more minor role in puppeteer.
Anyone else feel like the acting in this show has been annoyingly uneven? Some scenes are performed very well and then some scenes make you want to punch babies. 1/27/2009 3:48:50 AM |

After just finishing the books, Im glad that the show is taking a new route. At least im not exactly sure how things play out in the TV series.
also happy that denna and jennsen look about like I imagined them from the books 3/25/2009 12:30:47 AM |

this show is on the level of xena or hercules with less humor and more boring stories
FAIL
OTOH, this is going to be the shit: http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/george-rr-martins-game-of-thrones-heads-to-hbo-with-dinklage-and-mccarthy 5/9/2009 2:56:16 PM |

i don't think it's any worse than hercules or xena...all are pretty hokey...i think the problem is that with hercules and xena they could make up whatever they wanted, but with seeker they have to follow a comparatively strict storyline...the biggest problem, IMO, is that they can progress in the storyline only occasionally since otherwise they'll get bogged down with the WHOLE storyline, which they can't really do because of the nature of the written series (it doesn't translate well into a TV series)
but yeah, i have extremely high hopes for martin's song series...dinklage is by far one of my favorite actors (if i had to choose one actor to meet in person, it'd be him)...he'll do the part of tyrion justice 5/9/2009 5:17:03 PM |

ARGH I AM SO ANGRY THEY ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE BOOK SUPER STRICKLY
RAWR RAWR RAWR WHEN IS RAHL GOING TO MURDER A BOY AND EAT HIS BALLS
HOW DARE THEY?
i'm happy with what they've done (i liked herc and to a lesser extent zena) my only complaint is that richard's a pretty small dude 5/9/2009 5:45:41 PM |
quagmire02 All American 44225 Posts user info edit post |
i'm not getting pissy about them not following the book...just pointing out, in regards to skokiaan's complaint about the show having "more boring stories", that the series storyline doesn't lend itself to a TV series and that hercules and xena didn't have this problem
i like all 3 shows, actually
yeah, my biggest complaint is definitely that richard is tiny compared to way he was described in the books...an rahl has dark hair (though part of me wonders if they didn't want to liken him too much to the nazis ) 5/9/2009 6:50:34 PM |

Man I used to love that series. Wizard's First Rule was probably my favorite Fantasy book before A Game of Thrones. But Goodkind broke my series limit rule like Robert Jordan before him. And George RR better get his shit together or I'll be giving up on that series too.
Ending stories for the win. Props to Tad Williams. 5/12/2009 2:27:42 PM |

^ they were just too many books for you? the song of ice and fire is slated to be only 7 books, IIRC
i'm mixed about the whole thing...i like that tad williams does end his series pretty quickly and moves on, but at the same time, if i like a series, i don't WANT it to end 5/12/2009 2:45:11 PM |

since the show doesnt follow the books closely at all, you really should pick up wizards first rule and get the real story before the TV show gets back to it - especially if your at work . (there is enough romance for the ladies)
the final book makes a deep philosophical comparison with human evolution... don't know if any of you noticed that as well (no spoiler)5/18/2009 10:11:37 PM |

It's kind of hard to miss that message in his books, Goodkind shoves a lot of it down your throat

darken rahl COULD be the end of the show if they choose not to do a second season, but if you've read the book you know that darken rahl is actually only a small part of the complete storyline...jagang and the imperial order could be next 6/2/2009 6:51:55 AM |

I think they've had the women pretty close so far, Kahlan is close enough to what I imagined and and Shota isn't bad
the guys actors on the other hand... Zed is the only one who looks anything like who he should be 6/2/2009 8:44:13 AM |
quagmire02 All American 44225 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, kahlan is pretty close...though i think shota is far enough from how she was described in the book to be annoying...at first, zed freaked me out (i expected some spindly, tiny old man), but i can see him in his role, now
richard, as has been discussed at length, is a disappointment (in terms of physical qualities described in the book)...darken rahl could have been much closer if they'd given it half a shot, but apparently hair dye and contacts weren't worth the effort
i know i'm nitpicking...what else am i going to do at work? 6/2/2009 9:00:48 AM |
miska All American 22242 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, the actor playing Richard is definitely awful for the character, I'm still disappointed with him and Darken Rahl is worse, I don't even know how that's possible
They know their audience is mostly dudes, so Richard and Rahl doesn't matter as much No one is going to be looking at them when Kahlan/Shota/chickies in hot dresses are on screen.

i finished watching the first season last night. I never read the books or heard about them until now. The show itself was really awesome. I liked the villains the most.. the guy who played darken rahl was really good in that type of role, and i thought the mord'sith were really interesting (and cute to boot). I was surprised at the direction of the finale, but when all said and done, it was really unique, and kept you wondering the whole time what was coming next.
definately pumped for season 2
