Mitchell's was better than the Pit is.

I swear the sauce is different.

I know the GM of Empire Eats and he promised me it's the same, but it just tastes different to me.

The Pit has good banana pudding but I stopped at McCalls on the way home from the beach today and their banana pudding was the best I ever had.

Love me some eastern style bbq, The Pit is very good for the area and the ribs are yum yum. Wish we had more options though!

Also Eastern generally uses whole-hog, Western (Lexington, anyway) prefers to use shoulders only.

Rather than "The Pit," I recommend Backyard BBQ Pit on HWY 55 in Durham - Eastern-style and best BBQ in existence.

I wouldn't recommend Pappa's BBQ in the Houston airport. Really fucked up my Tuesday.

i view embezzling from the company that you own as similar to offensive pass interference. i mean technically it's wrong, but shit the ball was mine to begin with.

I thought it was decent at best.... average service, average food, small portions (was hungry when I left), and way to $$. Overall I will give it one more try and get something other than their pulled pork, I've heard their ribs are good. Brisket was too mushy, and turkey was just nasty.

I'll take Holy Smokes any day over the Pits....

The Pit is doodoo compared to Parker's

They chop the BBQ up into mush, it tastes just like Cookout's BBQ sandwiches

Had SC style for the first time Monday coming back from Atlanta. It was different but I liked it.

Eastern NC Style ftw!

I have to disagree about Maurices BBQ. Had it twice just to make sure and not only is it overpriced (a combo with chicken, ribs and BBQ is 20 bucks) but it's horrible. Sweet mustard on bbq just doesn't belong.

McCalls is excellent and not too far from NC State. Their buffet is ftw.

ditto on the serving size. I'm willing to pay $12 for some good bbq, but when I had more sides on my plate than pig I was not impressed. the banana pudding was damn good though.

judging by how he cooks his ribs and what he uses I'm willing to give them a try. I'm a big fan of hot and fast cooked ribs v. slow and low cooked.

Bobby's stuff just looked too flavorful, too many spices and sauces, couldn't let the meat be tasted.

Seemed like a nice guy.....

^ ahahahaha

One time we were driving back from Miami and my black roommate was asleep in the back seat. I'd never been to Maurice's before and had no idea about the interior. We woke him up and I thought that I was going to get drop kicked as soon as we walked in.

In the "gift shop" I remember seeing little booklets on how no blacks were killed during the NY draft riots and that it was all propaganda.

it's amazing the amount of post-production on "Throwdown." Hell, they had a judging take place at the Backyard Bistro too, none of which was shown.

I might have to try this place when I get back in town. The best BBQ I've eaten so far is at B's bbq in greenville.

Save your money. It's too expensive. You're looking at more than $10 a plate not including a drink. You can get a better deal a Smithfield's.

Its really too much for bbq. I can get better for cheaper. Also, the inside of the place is way too fancy for a bbq joint.

$11 for BBQ, 2 sides and all the hushpuppies/biscuits you can eat is ridiculous

maybe if you drive 1-2 hours from Raleigh, but then it's not really less expensive is it?

you can get better for cheaper in raleigh. some of which is located at establishments others of which are produced by residents.

if the place didn't have the owners it has and the hype of being "bbq but trendy" by a lot of people who view themselves as up and coming upper crust of raleigh then it would have been out of business almost immediately.

there is nothing unique or particularly savory about this place.
