Driving the Integra up to Maryland and back this weekend. I fully expect to top 280,000 miles.
Engine doesn't burn any oil, but a leak around the oil pan drain plug is getting worse. I think I need to replace the oil pan 1/20/2010 1:52:38 PM |

I also have a leak around the pan. You have to drop the suspension to fix it, and that aint cheap, so I just top it off every 4 refills. 1/20/2010 3:27:21 PM |

^^well it also has a dent or two, lol. I fear to think about potential oil starvation at constant high rpms 1/20/2010 3:41:08 PM |

I've seen under your car.......and I've seen the unfortunate header who took the majority of the dents.
You should snap a photo of that header and post it! It's hard to get me to go "uh..WOW dude..." when looking at old honduhs. 1/20/2010 7:19:11 PM |

Will do Quinn.
While we're on the topic, I was going about 30-35mph on St. Mary's night and crossed Morgan. Apparently there's a huge road hump there. My front subframe nailed the road when it encountered the hump, and then again when it was over the hump.
There needs to be a fucking sign there

High mileage ITT.
Think the most I've ever had was 174k on my '79 Malibu. Which is where it still sits though it hasn't run under its own power since 2001. Even at that, the transmission had been rebuilt and it'd had a valve job done. Theoretically if I were to replace the timing chain and put a carb back on it (plus do all the little stuff one has to do after a car has sat that long) it would run again, but it's not worth putting that much work into a 267. Car will probably have a different engine when I ever get it back on the road.
Highest anything in the family has gone was ~190K on a '91 Accord when it was wrecked. Transmission had been rebuilt but AFAIK the only non-maintenance repair to the engine was to replace the intake manifold. 1/21/2010 12:11:03 AM |

The 944 had about 175k on the engine before it got yanked. The main bearings had some play in it, o-rings were worn, and then the oil pump was showing early signs of failure. Chassis has about 190k on it now, with about 17k-18k on the new engine. It's gone through 1 transmission, which I'll admit I pushed pretty hard (r&p failure from age and many drifting sessions, as well as who knows what else from the 4 previous owners).
I'm hoping the mx3 will see 200k before either it dies or the car is sold. 168k ATM IIRC.
The lexus has a long way to go. Just under 14k miles now.

96 Dodge CTD now has 252K on it - the 78 PowerWagon it replaced has 280K (at 10 mpg = not on road now).
My 74 Scout that I need to put back together had 260K when the tip of the oil dipstick broke off and managed to groove a rod journal. I really need to get it back together and have some fun with it.
Heck, my brothers 94 Honda has 262K.
When you are a) cheap, b) married, and c) have a house (or two) the need to drive something until it stops moving on its own power becomes ingrained.
That said, sometimes I wish I had not sold my Porsche Cabriolet to get the downpayment on the other house. I reckon I will have to settle for one day getting my 69 442 convertible back on the road - if I live that long/wife dies and leaves me insurance money/or she runs off with somebody and doesn't ask for alimony. Might as well wish for a pony. 1/28/2010 3:24:41 PM |

Deja vu.
Seriously though married + kids and you got a ready supply of tools and space to work on a car means you cheap out and run that bitch till the wheels are going to fall off. My wife is not a big fan of her 97 LeSabre with 158k+ miles on it, and it shredded the serpentine belt in the front yard last week (transverse mounted motor = teh suck) but we both HATE the thought of a car payment that could be more than our house payment. I just put a new set of 50k mile tires on the pickup, so I should have no problem making it to 300k and I'll definitely take a picture of that. If I get really fucking nuts, I would love to try and push this thing to 500k. We'll see. 1/29/2010 12:30:00 AM |
