Why has no one mentioned that they're doing this almost at exactly the same time the lunar eclipse is scheduled to take place? (And on almost exactly the opposite side of the earth)

conspiracy?

As I understand it, taking out the satellite is all contingent on being able to disable the shield generator. However, we should be vigilant as the satellite could be fully operational.

Even though I only play a small part in Aegis MDA as a software developer - it's nice to see another success of our program

the hydrazine thing was complete bullshit by the way. you'd have to be exposed to it for hours for it to be harmful.

Pentagon confident satellite's toxic fuel destroyed

Quote :
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Pentagon officials said they think a Navy missile scored a direct hit on the fuel tank of an errant spy satellite late Wednesday, eliminating a toxic threat to people on Earth.

'We have a high degree of confidence we got the tank,' Marine Gen. James Cartwright said at a Pentagon briefing Thursday morning.

A fireball and a vapor cloud seen after the strike appeared to indicate the toxic hydrazine fuel had been destroyed, he said. The missile that struck the satellite did not carry an explosive warhead."

Wow. I guess this throws a bit of a monkey wrench in the argument by some that we can't hit anything with our weapons.

^ Um. . .are you really that ill-informed? See critics of Patriot missiles, SDI, and the claims made by some here from time to time.

IIRC 'star wars' is almost a completely different LASER based technology that the technology isn't ready for yet. Our missles have been relatively accurate for the past 20 years. There have been fuckups, but those are expected (and extremely unfortunate). I don't think anyone seriously questions that we're leaps and bounds beyond any other superpower technology-wise though.

^ The Extended Range Interceptor, Homing Overlay Experiment, Exoatmospheric Reentry-vehicle Interception System were all elements of SDI at one time or another and all were ground-based weapons.

Our missiles don't fly 10 miles under the limit in the left lane with their blinker on.

The performance of this system has dick to do with the performance of other systems, such as patriot, which are not as good or capable.
