^^that's what I did, but the plywood is supported by 2x6's 16" OC and those are fixed to the 2nd tier frame by joist hangers (just so that I know the sitting platform could support a Volkswagen and not feel cheap/flimsy) 2/21/2008 1:20:36 PM |

I bought a noname memory foam mattress as well (it had a 95% good rating) hopefully the platform will work with it.

they sell a bed with a similar headboard at wal-mart. $199 black or dark brown. solid surround though.
[Edited on February 21, 2008 at 8:00 PM. Reason : looks really good for the price.]

those beds that fold out from the wall need to make a comeback
I've been in a house off lake wheeler that has one, but the mattress folds, like a sofa sleeper, ftl
(bonus points to anyone who can find the clip of glenn quagmire's dozen fold-out beds) 2/25/2008 9:30:29 AM |

I just got this one- I love it, and it was super cheap plus free delivery. Way better deal than anything Ikea was offering, considering their shipping is $130+.

i like that last one a lot. i think the ones on the first page would be problematic for a lot of sex positions. 8/12/2008 12:48:20 PM |

I love West Elm, I have dressers, tables, night stands, beds, shelves, etc from them
good stuff and quality. Most needs to be put together but isnt so bad. 8/12/2008 1:04:14 PM |

aea, I'm so glad you posted that bed from CSN - I'm gonna buy one at the end of the month - I've been looking for one like that for a while under $300 8/12/2008 1:46:22 PM |

all my stuff is real wood. So the packages/boxes are heavy to move etc. I moved it all into my garage prebuilt things then moved larger peices into my house then finished putting things together. Never dealt with customer service, everythign worked out well for me. I have friends who have used them and love them.
some items come built too, like some nightstands etc.

^^ glad to be of service
but some warning if you do buy one from that company- to put it together, you need a robertson screwdriver because these are used to mount the platform to the base:

We got ours from bedroomcarnival.com several years ago (when they were still in stock) in a decent amount of time with good customer service.
This one in black, queen size.
This one in rosewood, full size.
I love how many under-the-bed boxes I can stuff under these.
Warning: an 18"-22" pillowtop mattress will completely overwhelm the headboard if that has any bearing on your choice.
This is a good intermediate step between what you have now and a "grown up" bed. 8/12/2008 7:26:07 PM |
