Yes, I am aware of this article. I am also aware of public perception and how he'd get hell if he made decriminalization/legalization a campaign promise.
I think we're more likely to see steps toward this under him than any other candidate. (Though it might help McCain be able to raise his arms if he smoked a little.) 2/20/2008 3:56:07 PM |

Quote : | "Asked about the two different answers, Mr. Obama's presidential campaign said he in fact has "always" supported decriminalizing marijuana as he answered in 2004, meaning the candidate mistakenly raised his hand during the presidential debate last fall.
That position leaves Mr. Obama as the lone presidential candidate among the four leading challengers in either party who supports eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana. Mr. Obama's chief rival for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Hillary Clinton, opposes decriminalization, Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said." |
also, the question was "do you disagree with senator dodd about decriminalizing marijuana?" not "do you believe in decriminalizing marijuana?"
and he wasn't given the opportunity to expand on his position. yet another reason why i hate those "raise your hand" questions.

^ That's exactly why I say his position is at best confused. The full question was
"Sen. Dodd, you went on the Bill Maher show last month and said that you were for decriminalizing marijuana. Is there anyone here who disagrees with Sen. Dodd in decriminalizing marijuana?"
What's not to understand? And why did he only clarify in a piece by the Washington Times? Why not stump about it like he did in 2004?
