What I'm saying is that I'm right and you're wrong.

You can like whatever kind of music you want. There's plenty of laid back, fun, southern party music that's fucking fantastic.

Jimmy Buffett, however, is just treading water.

I understand that it's a cash cow. I understand that he doesn't have to work all that hard to make people happy. I still think it's bullshit.

For the record, a lot of this, for me at least, stems from the similar aura that surrounds Mike Love's bastardization of the Beach Boys, which for the past twenty years has been drawing attention from the legacy of one of America's greatest songwriters. Jimmy Buffett links into that story in a number of ways that I don't feel like writing the eight-page history of, but suffice it to say that it hasn't helped endear him to me on top of his own activity.

how the fuck is anybody right or wrong?

it's a concert that myself and many of my friends plan on attending because we like the music and we like the good time

I personally like a lot of the songs because I can relate in a way to some of them (omg lyrics and relating to them, you know a reason people like to hear certain shit)

you choose not to like him, you also choose not to go, but you're in here being a complete douchebag acting ranting and raving thinking that somehow, you're opinion on music is gonna make somebody go, "ohh gee, maybe he's right, I don't wanna go to this anymore"

because if you're doing it just to rant, you should seek some meds

So the song is only good if it is about something harder than booze? Your comment is trying to compare two totally different styles of music. I wouldn't expect to go to a Buffett show and hear something that sounded like Johnny Thunders or velvet underground or whatever. I expect to hear Buffett. An artist, I might add, that cultivated his own "sound". That is more than a lot of artists will ever do. You don't like Buffett, that's cool. I personally don't care for Chuck Berry. I respect him, but his music is repetitive and dull. Sure, it is one of THE foundations of rock, but I don't care. The point is, I wouldn't go into a thread called "chuck berry rules" just to say, "no he doesn't and by the way, those that like him are stupid." That is laughably stupid. This thread wasn't seeking opinions on Buffett. It was meant to tell those that are interested that there are shows on the way.

Because when I'm trolling, that's how it works.

I'm well aware of the intentions of this thread. However, I am, in fact, just that bored.

The point of Johnny Thunders or "Roadrunner" isn't the actual content of the songs (I like JT's cover of "Do You Love Me?" just as much as I like "Chinese Rock"), it's the vitality of the music. I don't hear any vitality or humanity in Buffett, and in a world where there are artists in every imaginable genre who bring an incredible sense of life to their music, I find that unacceptable.

wow. your musical dick is huge. Seriously, I, and I am sure many, many others, are INCREDIBLY impressed with your musical knowledge. The surest sign of someone that doesn't really like music (but is more interested in the minutiae of the music) is when they start putting down other people's tastes.

It's sort of sad actually.

Anyway, happy trolling!

lol, I prefer music to be an escapism from thinking, not the other way around

hence the term "entertainment"

Since when is sounding like you're alive versus going through the motions "minutiae?"

I'd be glad to talk about James Jamerson dropping beats and all, but I'd rather dance.

Anyway, if it's laughable to seek out excellence instead of settling for mediocrity, then I'm okay with being laughable.

excellence is a relative term is the point. the reality is that your taste sucks. and clearly you need to justify your bad taste by crapping on good music.

(btw, it cracks me up that you name drop random musicians in every post. too funny.)

I didn't think trolling was allowed in entertainment

at least from the PMs I've received from mods in the past

I love how this thread is no longer really about JB's shows but rather an online shitfest. Great entertainment, keep it up guys. For the record though, Jimmy Buffett sucks ass, almost to the point where I cringe and get chills down my spine whenever I am in the presence of one of his songs.

everytime i try to get buffett tickets through ticketmaster, the website lags and by the time it gets processed they are all sold out

but this time - this time damnit, i'm getting tickets!

and if it goes through, i'm getting the max # of tickets allowed (lawn seats of course) so i can sell those puppies for mad money like every other asshole out there. i refuse to pay 300% above face value for yet another buffett show

Oh and for all you out there hating on the dude. Try to go to one of his shows. Its not that we want to be "fratty". In fact I am a big advocate of everyone I know traveling and seeing the world, and my favorite place to travel to is the Caribbean. SO I relate to a lot of the stuff he is about. Also some of the songs relate to things regarding my life and I'm not in a frat and never have been. Try to be a little more open minded some of you.

This thread makes me wonder what I was doing on March 14th, 2008 that prevented me from joining in the Jimmy Buffett fun.

My favorite part of the thread is where xplosivo says:

Quote :
"I don't recall saying a word about alcohol or drinking. It seems that that is how you assume a buffett show goes down. That's ignorant. Assuming everyone drinks there is the same as someone assuming everyone at the shows you like are on heroin or ecstacy (or whatever the trendy drug du jour is). I wouldn't make that leap about your shows anymore than I would a buffett show."

But, it's Jimmy who is known for having the ecstasy problem...

Jimmy Buffet: making simple music for simple people for way too god damn long.
