all the US has to do is mention the word "drilling" and the prices will shoot down through the floor.

b/c everybody knows if we started drilling alaska we would pwn @ the economy again.

but for some reason once again, the liberals will have none of this drilling. oh well.

it mentions something similar to what I think you are talking about, but they didnt actually say oil sands so I dunno.

Says counting normal petroleum reserves Iraq is at #3, if you count all of Canadas extra reserves, pushes Iraq to #4. Still, though, they have more oil than Kuwait.

My point was referring to Saddam's whole reasoning behind the invasion of Kuwait that caused the first Gulf War. His 8 year war with Iran had dipped into the treasury and he was on the verge of going broke. If he hadn't looked to Kuwait for it's oil, he would likely be facing revolution. Iraq's oil reserves weren't enough. Gaining access to Kuwait essentially doubled his supply.

i say either take the bus, buy a hybrid, or shut the fuck up and pay.

i mean its expensive and all, but its not like a tank doesnt last as long as it did before. so its like 25 bucks a month more expensive lately. or something.

what i dont get... why is it that no matter what the price level, the 3 grades are always 10 cents apart? its always been that way... so premium used to be over 20% more expensive than regular. and now its just a few percent higher. that never made sense to me

^inflation doesnt just refer to dollars. its talking about gas mileage inflation as well!!1

^^ The "cost to drive 100 miles" thing is dumb. I'm pretty sure they just used the price adjusted for inflation and multiplied it by 4, but I couldn't find a nice chart that was JUST inflation.

Eh...

you're about to see gas prices effect the price of food pretty strongly. You can already see it in products like milk. Meat, produce, beer, the cost of everything will begin going up. Products that are heavier will climb faster than others. So furnature, paint, books, electronics...all that is going up too. In fact, the only thing that won't be going up is our pay...unless you make minimum wage that is. Enjoy!

^^ANWR has an estimated 10 billion barrels of recoverable oil, which makes it a decent sized field. There is more oil off the coast, but rich people who own beach houses don't want to see barely-visible oil rigs 10 miles off the coast. There's also a shit-ton of oil under the arctic ocean, but drilling through ice is tricky. So lets hope for more global warming, to the point where all that arctic ice melts.

Yeah, so then maybe people will see the even larger National Petroleum Reserve to the left and leave the National Wildlife Refuge the fuck alone.

This image has it by the older name of Naval Petroleum Reserve commissioned by Warren G. Harding but it's the same place. As of yet that whole area can not be contested for use other than for oil and gas exploration. The reason why the Wildlife Refuge remains contentious is because even though the oil lobby says a "tiny" section will be opened for exploration it sets a precedent which could open the flood gates to future pillaging for resources especially as oil supplies dwindle.

I love people who freak out over gas prices. Say gas was half what it is now. So like $1.60. A tank on average is what....16 gallons? Thats around $24 a week difference. Most college students at most fill up once a week. If $24 a week is gonna cause you to flip the fuck out or be broke, then you have other issues you need to deal with. Its like these people who say they can't take a trip on vacation because of the gas prices. If that extra $100-200 is gonna make or break your trip, then you don't need to be taking it anyway, your ass needs to be working instead.

gas prices havent caused effected my standard of living or whatever at all. its maybe 8-10 bucks more per tank or something since last year at the most. and i get maybe 3 tanks per month. so its like a dollar a day. for something that fuels my life (pardon the pun). but really, cant make money without gas to get to work. so it costs a dollar a day more to make money now.

^^and thats very true. a beach trip is like 2 tanks at the most, likely one. so it costs 10 bucks extra to go to the beach. if thats gonna make you redo the budget, you need to stay home

^so stop buying it if you cant afford it. problem solved....

^that is a dumb argument, no offence, 1st of all i commute like 50 miles a day or more
everything else is going up since these prices have been like this for years now
yeah its been that long
maybe you're one of those thats just swipes your card and dont pay attention, i used to be like that but now money is tight and i actually notice it
.....

There are jobs closer

There are places to live closer to where you work

Choose one of these and you can walk/ride a bike/take the bust to work and back home.

Don't bitch because you choose to live 25 miles or so from where you work. You choose to do it, so live with the consequences.

I do agree that prices of other things are going up. But I don't and havent felt the need to alter my life significantly because of it. Sure maybe once a week or so I dont go out with friends and drink or eat out, but overall my life is the same.

i work and go to school, the fact is even if i wanted to are no options that would make my commute easier
the problem is lack of public trasport, and the way our cities are designed
and the alternatives cost more than the gas increase
so people are just watching their money being drained out, on top of that i gotta hear assholes like you telling me to stop bitching, this has been going on for years so wtf r we supposed to do

i pay attention when i swipe my card. its about 8-10 bucks higher per tank than it was when i got the car, which was about a year ago. its just that ive come to expect high gas prices, and ive accepted them as part of the lifestyle i lead. i'm not willing to take the bus to work so i gotta pay.

^^^^ Are you seriously trying to assert that rising gas prices shouldn't be able to affect peoples' lives? A more than doubling in price over the past few years is going to have a huge effect.

You're looking at more than a thousands dollars a year difference in expenditure, that's only going to grow. Most people salivate at the thought of a thousand dollar plus increase or so in salary.

Realize this is how its gonna be and stop bitching about it.

Understand its most likely not going to change any time soon and stop bitching about it.

Get a better job if its that big a deal to you.

Obviously the high gas prices aren't causing you to run out of money, you can still afford internet, so just suck it up and move on. This is how its going to be.

^I'm glad you don't feel like gas prices have any effect on you. However, they do have an effect on others, and they may want to exchange information about the situation and maybe work towards solutions. I'm not really sure why that angers you.

In the last couple months, I've seen some gas stations putting 12 or 15 cents between the different levels of gas. But the 10-cent difference still seems to be the norm.

nobody enjoys paying more at the pump, but that is NOT the main reason high gas prices are bad... our entire shipping industry, which impacts almost every single thing in this economy, is fueled by oil fuels. when gas prices go up, prices for EVERYTHING goes up.
