Its a shame Christopher Hitchens passed away, as he was a master at these sorts of events.
Of course in the end they are generally pointless endeavors. People who believe things without evidence are not generally swayed by logic.

Didn't see it but a few of my friends on FB who are fairly religious were pretty pissed off last night. Then again these are the same type of people who think that 90% of the world is going to Hell for not believing their exact religious doctrine (yep, even those tribesmen in the Amazon that have never even heard of Jesus and even little babies that are born with a sickness and only live for a few hours). 2/5/2014 9:58:36 AM |

As someone who studied Biology myself, I can appreciate what the THEORY of evolution brings to the table. But since it's a THEORY it doesn't make it any better or worse than creationism, which can also be argued that it is a theory. It's a debate that won't be won because we won't ever know the true answer. There is science to back up both theories, but unless you have a spiritual faith that a supreme being of some kind created this earth and everything (everyone) on it, you are not going to be open to an alternative, spiritual view." |

even Pat Robertson thinks that Ham guy is silly
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/05/pat-robertson-implores-creationist-ken-ham-to-shut-up-lets-not-make-a-joke-of-ourselves/
Quote : | "Let’s face it,” Robertson said, “there was a Bishop [Ussher] who added up the dates listed in Genesis and he came up with the world had been around for 6,000 years.”
“There ain’t no way that’s possible,” he continued. “To say that it all came about in 6,000 years is just nonsense and I think it’s time we come off of that stuff and say this isn’t possible.”
“Let’s be real, let’s not make a joke of ourselves.”
“We’ve got to be realistic,” he concluded, and admit “that the dating of Bishop Ussher just doesn’t comport with anything that is found in science and you can’t just totally deny the geological formations that are out there.”" |

The surprising thing is that this is one of the more reasonable YEC organizations, with a list of discredited arguments for creationists to avoid: http://www.answersingenesis.org/get-answers/topic/arguments-we-dont-use 2/6/2014 9:33:55 AM |

Quote : | "Creation Museum founder Ken Ham announced Thursday that a municipal bond offering has raised enough money to begin construction on the Ark Encounter project, estimated to cost about $73 million. Groundbreaking is planned for May and the ark is expected to be finished by the summer of 2016.
Ham said a high-profile evolution debate he had with "Science Guy" Bill Nye on Feb. 4 helped boost support for the project." |

So I finally watched most of this "debate" last night. Is is frightening that there are reasonably intelligent people like Ken Ham who actually refer to the bible as a scientific document and think the earth is 6,000 years old simply because the "begat" lineage in the bible could only add up to around 6,000 years, and that the stars and the rest of the universe was put here by god for his amusement, and they're only 6,000 years old too.
Does he truly believe this? Or is it all a scam to get money? I just don't see how any reasonable person could believe this. 9/2/2014 12:02:38 PM |

80-90% of our population is unreasonable in regards to religion, just at varying levels. I'm actually surprised there isn't more crazies at his level of commitment to idiocy. 9/2/2014 2:31:10 PM |

Well, there are respected scientists who are religious. But they don't interpret Genesis and the rest of the Bible literally like this nutcase and his followers. I'd like to think this guys religous nuttiness is on the extreme edge. 9/2/2014 2:44:17 PM |

I dare say the respected, intelligent, and logical scientists that are religious are possibly scarier than Ham. Not in what they do (there are brilliant ones that help our society), but in the fact that a mind of that level could still be influenced by ludicrous supernatural crap. It freaks me out. 9/2/2014 3:00:18 PM |
