Report him, that's messed up, espcially since he's doing it all the time. Shit, if i have to shlep used pasta water outside to give my plants ANY water, people should not just get away with running their hose all the time.

Honestly I can't beleive this guy is not worried about getting reported, you should report him just to teach him a lesson. Don't worry about him getting busted, like someone said he needs to get caught in the act, but someone from the city might contact him and warn him, and that should get him to stop.

Has raleigh not loosened restrictions?

Charlotte hasn't, but everywhere around it has. My parents are washing cars and watering their lawn again.

^ We're still under stage 2 in Raleigh.

I need to find a way to report him without him knowing it was me. I have pictures, but it's very obvious that they were taken from my house. I can't say anything to him about it (along the lines of, "hey, we're still under restrictions"), because then he will know it was me who reported him later on.

why the hell does it matter if he knows it was you?

Fuck, I'll come by, take pictures, and you can use those to report him.

You send them an e-mail and include the time frame he usually waters stuff ... make up an address if you're really worried.

^ I sent an anonymous email (from my hotmail account), I really just want them to give him a warning, not fine him all that money. But the website says the first violation is a $1000 fine.

because I have have to live next to him. probably for a long time. it's never good to have your neighbors be your enemies.

Realistically, he probably won't get a $1,000 fine. If anything, they'll ask him if he knew about the restrictions, he'll lie and say no, and they'll tell him he'd better not do it again. I am guessing they just say the first-time violation is that expensive to deter people. But then again, the city likes revenue ...

^ agreed...i may be a wuss, but the truth is that you don't want your neighbors as enemies, ESPECIALLY if you own the property (it's one thing if you're renting an apartment)...i don't blame you for not wanting him to know it was you

why can't people mind their own damn business? do you REALLY have nothing better to do? have you inspected this guy's plumbing? do you know for a fact that he's watering from city water? maybe he has a well. maybe he collects rain water. maybe he does one of ten other possibilities. if you want to be "that person" and sneak around spying on your neighbors because you don't have a life otherwise, how about coming up with some solid evidence that he's even doing something illegal first?

hell yeah, lets waste MORE city resources, taxpayer money, and gas on your unfounded suspicions!

how about this novel idea... grow up, and go talk to your neighbor first.

unfounded suspicions!

Yeah, because it's totally more feasible that his hose was hooked up to a rain barrel or something ... that she's somehow never seen.

She's not exactly sneaking around and spying:
Quote :
"wouldn't complain usually, but I've seen him dragging the running hose around the yard (with no nozzle) on two occasions now, and his yard has been wet more than that."

From my computer, I can see two neighbors' houses and front lawns; coming into the office from the hall, I can see another neighbor's house and lawn, and from the living room, the one on the other side.
It's also really easy to see my neighbors' places when I'm pulling into the drive.

Funny: we're all on well water in this neighborhood, and the only green lawn? Belongs to the retired folks whose lawn doesn't get a lot of sun.
Most folks on well water would rather use their water for drinking and bathing than on their lawn

i have two water barrels and a bunch of tanks under my porch, none of which can be seen from the street. I also have an electric pump with a water house attached, which comes out near the original house spigot. I dont think anyone watching can tell that I water my house and wash my cars with rain water, but i would be happy to show them. I would hope my neighbors would come ask me before they rat me out.

ambrosia, you're a fucking idiot

if you have to live beside someone for a while, it's probably wise to tread lightly and know what the hell you're doing before you go taking pics and raising hell

obviously if the guy is breaking the law, why would he not break the law again and do something like say... punch you in the mouth then piss on your doorstep
