And if this statement is true:

Then why am I forced to buy 80 channels on cable (some of which are in the phone or internet business) or satellite I don't want in order to get 1 channel I want?

because content providers wont sell popular channels a la carte to the providers. Time Warner has to buy them in bulk, so they sell them to you in bulk.
