i like the crossroads one, and also off 15/501 in the shopping center there is a "chees steak" place, very good
also rudinios hogies/grinders makes a good cheestake, its called peppersteak though

im a big cheestake fan, i used to work for steak escape and when i left that company went down the hill

I recently went to Philly for the first time. I think of myself as a cheesesteak connoisseur and I had one at Pat's first and one at Geno's back-to back. There was really no contest whatsoever, it was geno's all the way. I honestly couldn't even figure out why there is such a debate.

After 4.5 years of research, ruckus makes the best cheesesteak in Raleigh, IMO

Ate one last night to reconfirm

Have you tried Anvils. Pretty delicious!
So fucking good and spicy if you like it that way.
http://www.anvilscheesesteaks.com/

I think Penn Station East Coast Subs (chain-several locations) is good too.

Both put marinara sauce on it, so I get it on the side and dip the sandwich. Never tried that combo until recently and it's great!

Randy's Pizza RTP location has some good phillies but I always get the Chicken Philly

Two Guys Grill has a banging black bean philly for those of you that are vegetarian. They also have Chicken and steak ones as well.

I've never had the one at Ruckus. Will have to try it/compare.

I've been involved with Ruckus since early '04, and since I've had our phillys, I haven't strayed very far from them. That said, I've had a handful of phillys from other places, and they weren't even close. Also, we quite literally have an army of people who swear we have the best one they've ever had. A solid 30+ people swear it. About 10 people come in 4-5 times a week to eat one, too.

Ruckus does have the best I've ever had. I don't regularly order them when we travel though so not sure if that is saying much. Also, Ruckus 1 philly > Ruckus 3 philly. And the pizza at 1 is better than 2 & 3 combined. I digress.

+1

Ruckus probably has the best philly I've ever had. It would be nice if you'd just fix it so that the way I order it is the default.

I am partial to chicken phillys too, and ruckus makes the best of them as well

The only other place that is on ruckus' level is J. michaels Philly deli down in Wilmington.

Do people actually prefer getting theirs with lettuce, tomato and mayo? I like mine just meat, cheese, and veggies

I've had Woody's philly, and thought it was junk.

and yeah, a lot of people still opt for the lettuce, tomato and mayo..not sure why. I never put any of that on mine

I've been meaning to try Anvil's for a long, long time...need to get over there.

I did the same thing last year, and agreed that Geno's is better.

Hahaha- that is what happened to me when I saw this thread back to the top

I even went there today, but we were running low on time and they had the hangover slice on the board, so I opted for that. My dinner for tomorrow night might be decided now!

you should- we go there every now and then with work, and it is really good. I don't know how "authentic" it is, but damn it is tasty!

in all honesty, I've never actually had their regular "philly" - I always get one of their variations (just like I really just always get the hot n blue at ruckus). But what I've had has always been good

Tobacco Road makes a very good cheesesteak, also the 43 at Jersey Mikes (Chipotle CHeesesteak) is hard to beat.

italian kitchen on wake forest rd next to intrex computers has a pretty good chicken or steak philly. add chips and a drink for like $6.25. I usually eat there at least once a week.

everything they have is pretty good, actually.

There's a really good cheesesteak food truck between Southland Ballroom and Still Life. Probably the best one i've had in Raleigh.

This one: https://www.facebook.com/wouldyaeatit

I've also been told about Fat Philly's but have yet to trek out there.
