there are too many factors involved in that decision that are based on info you havent given us, your collective advisors

for instance

office type site or work site?

type of industry

what does everyone else normally wear

etc

Its all about optional clothing ... wear a shirt and tie, which has a jacket that you COULD put on if needed, and something where if you took off the tie and jacket, would still look pretty nice.

That way, you can scout out the environment/take off the jacket and not be all wrinkled/still nice looking.

yea, I mean I always wear a tie, but y'all flamed that guy in the other thread for not wearing a suit to his interview, so I didn't know if it was common for people to wear a suit instead of just a shirt and tie

wear a suit. jacket, tie, slacks, shoes ... the whole deal.

if your boss/interviewer wears a suit, it will all be good, and they will respect you for it.

if everyone is underdressed, you'll scare the shit out of them, and they'll scramble to find out how they can pay you enough to get you to work for them.

unless you're interviewing at Microsoft. then just wear shorts t-shirt and flip flops.

wear a suit.

if someone interviewed at my company without wearing one, i guarantee you that they wouldn't be leaving with a job offer

and not one of those bullshit Mens Wearhouse 150 dollar suits either

You can spot those fuckers from a mile away

Wear something decently made...something that cost at least a thousand or so

The Men's Wearhouse suit at least says, "He's trying." As long as it's not a high-powered job with a lot of customer contact, should be fine. (i.e. if you won't have to wear a suit to work, then it's an ok interview suit)

But try Overstock, Bluefly, or TJ Maxx for a nicer suit, and be sure to take it to the tailor first. A high-quality men's suit is an investment that you'll wear as long as you can squeeze your gut into it.

Also check the Brooks Brothers outlet in Garland (not the one in Smithfield). Shirts run 10 - 20, jackets 25 - 50, pants 15- 30. Not sure about ties.

TJ Maxx? you buy your suits from the Irregular and discarded racks?

i got a good suit from Banana Republic, with shoes and everything for something less than $400 ... on sale of course. definitely wait for sales.

yeah, i'd avoid Mens Wearhouse for your interview suit. if you need to have several suits, sure get a few there.

but your main #1 suit you should get from some where thats a bit more stylish.

^^I'm in IT. Why spend a ton on a suit you'll wear for the interview and maybe once a year after that? And $400 is a big chunk of change for someone just out of college with no job. Not everyone has mommy & daddy to pick up the tab.

And I'm not positive about the men's dept at TJ Maxx, but I've gotten excellent deals on nice women's suits there and made an assumption about the men's department. I'll stand behind Overstock, Bluefly & Brooks Brothers in Garland, though - have seen the men's clothes from all of those places.

aint no mommy and daddy about it... a 400 dollar suit is an investment. if you cant invest in your own goddamned career, you need to stick to waiting tables.

when you're sort of broke from being a college student is a cheaper investment than an expensive suit. You could get something worse.

Here's my $0.02.

When my boss gets in an application, the first things he looks as it wage required. If it is too high or out of line for what we typically pay for that position, it automatically goes to the bottom of the pile.

I don't think I've ever had an application that had a wage required question.

My most recent suit I bought from an Italian menswear store, which I'll probably stick with in the future. It was run by a couple of Italian guys, who guessed my size and grabbed a suit that fit perfectly off the rack. You can't find an American suit that isn't box cut anymore.

hey, im an engineer dammit, not a bidnissman.

a 400 dollar banana suit (regularly would have been 600, i might add), is about as good as its gonna get. it impressed my interviewers at a Fortune 200 company enough to give me an offer damn near on the spot, even though i was short on federally-regulated experience.

Never heard of fortune 200. Is that like fortune 500 except the top 200?

some of you people are retards

anyhow...... the point is, a nice suit will often fill gaps left by a lack of skill, experience or some other essential qualification.

dont hate the player, hate the game.

well I ended up goin with a shirt and tie, no jacket or suit. My interviewers were wearing very casual clothes, the woman had on flip-flops, so I think it worked out well.

it really doesn't matter what they're wearing. They're at work and can dress by their dress code. You're there trying to prove to them that you're taking this opportunity seriously. Dressing the part (ie shirt/tie/suit/whatever) helps in that.

good luck on your interview though, hope it went well.

I didn't until recently, several job postings have specifically asked for a resume, cover letter, portfolio and wage requirements. .

I can't recall ever wearing a suit to an interview. Maybe my very first job at ncsu, but that's it.
