Not discounting what you're saying. Whenever the government wants to give taxes back, I'll take it. However, this problem is just putting on a used bandaid on the cancer.

Unless you drive a monster truck, the normal person, filling up with 15 gallons at a time will save $3.00. Over the course of 3 months (the summer), that will save a person filling up once a week $36.00.

I mean, that's not going to do anything.

i guess i just dont expect anything good as far as gas prices, so i view anything small as a good bonus

luckily for me though i have a good job and a couple company gas cards for most of my fueling

Actually, it will do something. It will put Washington deeper in debt.

It would be nice to see some my elected officials conscious of their image and impact on the environment. True its pennies a day to the Americans, but change has to begin somewhere, and people do look typically look to leaders for ideologies of status and lifestyle.

You know, I used to buy into the whole "better us than lobbyists" thing for a lot of what we give our congress critters, but it's increasingly clear that congress is bought and paid for regardless of how many freebies they get from the tax payers, so honestly, I would rather have my tax money. They don't give a damn about their constituents anyway, so why bother funding them? Let the lobbyists pay for it all.

Opposition Emerges to House's Jet Spree

Quote :
"WASHINGTON -- Bipartisan opposition is emerging in the Senate to a plan by House lawmakers to spend $550 million for additional passenger jets for senior government officials.

The resistance to buying eight Gulfstream and Boeing planes comes as members of both chambers of Congress embark on the busiest month of the year for official overseas travel. The plan to upgrade the fleet of government jets, which was included in a broader defense-funding bill, has also sparked criticism from the Pentagon, which has said it doesn't need half of the new jets."

Rangel Failed to Disclose $500,000 in Assets for '07
Published: August 25, 2009

Quote :
"United States Representative Charles B. Rangel, whose personal finances and fund-raising are the subject of two House ethics investigations, failed to report at least $500,000 in assets on his 2007 Congressional disclosure form, according to an amended report he filed this month.

Among the dozen newly disclosed holdings revealed in the amended forms are a checking account at a federal credit union with a balance between $250,0000 and $500,000; three vacant lots in Glassboro, N.J., valued at a total of $1,000 to $15,000; and stock in PepsiCo worth between $15,000 and $50,000.

The updated forms report that Mr. Rangel's total net worth is between $1,028,024 and $2,495,000 — about twice the amount listed in the original disclosure statement, filed in May 2008, which declared assets totaling between $516,015 and $1,316,000."

^ I give due credit to Senator Claire McCaskill and some other Democrats for trying to kill that jet purchase.

Congress could bring down gas prices if they want. They just lowered the price for new cars by $3500 for some people, and it looks like energy star appliances are going to be $300 cheaper in October. They are already bringing down the price of E85, surely they COULD do the same for gas.

NOT that is would be a good idea. And we'd all pay for it still, its all a shell game.

Back to the original question in the thread title, I'd also drive a CXT.
