i knew a girl in high school who smoked a lot. took 5 AP classes and aced them all, getting 5's on all the AP exams except for one. Maybe pot kills dead/bad brain cells or something. I definitely don't think the world would be worse off if it were legalized though. people may actually be less inclined to do it since it wouldn't be illegal.

i'm not being sarcastic because this is a good question...why does it bother me? i don't really know why, in particular...the 5 or 6 times i've hung out with people while they got stoned (i didn't, out of choice...at the time, i had no problem hanging out with them while they did, though), i've just found my time was wasted...i'm sure it's fun to giggle at every little thing and just sit there incapable of forming coherent thoughts, but it doesn't even remotely intrigue me

I guess my point is that there are a lot of distractions in life, and marijuana is just one of many. I just wanted to know why it was at the top of your list. I respect your decision and your opinion. I think that when you come aggressively with so many stereotypes, people are quick to jump on you. Your arguments, while true sometimes, seem like cliche stereotypes that you picked up in a DARE program brochure.

This argument is way too long and detailed to have, so I'll leave it at that.

and you're right, there are a lot of distractions, and i'm sure i engage in a plethora of them...and i DO think people can smoke pot in moderation (and that, in fact, a lot of people do), but i'm basing my ideas and viewpoints on my experiences...what else do i have to do? i have three SN's on tdub - this one i use the most, and i'm an asshat a lot of the time on it...it's fun to get peoples' dander up because, if they were as content with their choices as they pretend to be, they shouldn't care about what some intarweb heckler thinks of their extracurricular activities...do they think insulting me will change my mind? i hope not

for what it's worth, i AGREE with the old DARE argument...lying to kids and trying to scare them away from something with false information is irresponsible...i don't think pot is going to be the end of the world, and kids shouldn't feel like they're going to hell if they try it

You know you've never tried either and you're judging them pretty hard. I think you should shut the hell up till you try them.

Plus, hanging out with 5 or 6 people who are high doesn't say shit. That's not a simple random sample, therefore you cannot assume that's how the population will respond to pot. Your logic is flawed, statistically speaking.

Also, man there are a lot of fucked up people out there who need it. Some people just physically cannot relax without some help. My best friend has to have pot to calm down, it's just who he is. That's like walking up someone with Xanthophobia and being like 'Why the fuck can't you just look at yellow paper." It's not pathetic it's just who they are. I mean I could call you pathetic because you can't dunk on a basketball goal (by the way you act I'm assuming you missed puberity and therefore are about 4 feet), well I can. Alcohol is far worse in most regards, and breeds much more disturbing monsters out of seemingly normal people. Life is about the choices that you make, and if pot is something you refuse to try, then so be it. Just don't lie to yourself and believe that your choices really make you better than others in anyway... unless of course your delusions comfort you. I think what has happened in this thread is exactly why pot won't be legalized anytime soon. There are too many people who have never smoked before who are staunchly opposed to it.

Their reasoning is flawed, but their point is valid. From the viewpoint of someone who has never smoked before, it is a giant waste of time. Like I said before, however, there are thousands of ways to "waste time". Since many of the medical myths have been overturned with time, this may be the last argument opposers can cling to. Like anything, it is often abused. However, there are always exceptions.
