In my defense:

I had a check engine light for the 2nd month in a row, so I didnt want to drive around with my O2 sensor broken and continue to have horrible gas mileage. Last month's check engine light cost me $350 and this month's was going to be another $200.

My old car had been paid off for like 7-8 months ish? I had paid for that thing in full by myself. I had been looking at the Tribute for a while now as my "dream car" but had no reason to buy one. Having my car break down on me was the kicker.

As far as big technical decisions without consulting him-- it's my car, I plan on paying for it, it was my ultimate decision. I even brought my mom with me, so it wasnt like I rolled up and bought whatever was on the lot. Another reason I bought from this particular dealership was because they're offering lifetime warranties, and since I had a check engine light problem..... I even looked at the 06 models they had on the lot, and for the extra couple thousand dollars 27 miles > 40k miles.

I did look at the models Beu posted originally and, being a girl, thought they were all ugly. I will admit that looks played a factor; I wanted to be happy with the thing I was going to be paying for over the next 5 years. So far I am completely satisfied with it. I have no complaints, I love driving it, and it's NCSU red

There's just nothing redeeming about the Tribute that makes it better than its competitors.

But happiness is whats important.

When moparnum5 & I went car browsing a few weeks ago I had a chance to see a lot of these...

Although I'm not a Ford fan AT ALL, I was impressed by the new Ford Explorers. The wheel selection for them wasn't all that great- but there was one that far surpassed the others. I was also particularly drawn to the Ironman package (less blingy (black instead of chrome grill), more rugged), but the rear bumper on the one I was looking at was all show- no reasonable structural integrity at all [could have been just that one, who knows].
As far as the Nitro is concerned, the exterior was a bit extreme imo, but the interior was nice & practical enough to make me actually consider it.
Then we drove to the Jeep dealership... and well, it was all over when I started looking at the Grands .

I despise Rav4's and anything made by Mazda at this point... so I won't comment on those, but that's just from my personal experiences. Some people love their little useless SUVs
IMO- look around and test drive the ones she likes. Buy the one that she's comfortable driving. the end.

Probably so... I was just pleasantly surprised by its interior. Didn't get a chance to drive it...
