I'm sorry to tell you but the cost of shoes have increased dramatically. From last season they have gone up between 7 - 10%. The cost of making the shoes in China are crazy. So since the cost of shoes have gone up anywhere between $1 - $3, people aren't going to make money unless they raise the retail prices of the shoes. Even next year they are saying it's going to increase again by around 15%. And what Zappo's doesn't really tell you is that they match the prices of the shoes to any website. My friend ordered a pair of Merell's that she saw on amazon's website for $20 and they matched that price.

The amount of stupid on this thread is painful.

Me neither

And I agree, I don't understand Twitter at all. I'm not even sure I know what it is.

I hit that looking for shoes of the style I like.
Hell no. First of all, no they dont have last years styles, no even last season's because the kind I like apparently is not being made this spring/summer, but was this winter.
Secondly, They have the same shoes I saw brick and mortar - +$20 to the price tag. More in a couple cases. They had nothing (including not having what I wanted), that was not on store shelves.

Sure, they're the new style, but why would I pay them $20 more for the same thing I can go down to crossroads or brier creek or any mall in the area and pick up for less? (reference, shoes originally are $30-40, zappos wants $50-70 for them, that is in fact, nearly double).

That said, I dont get twitter either. it feels stupid and stalkerish from what little i do know.

their shoes generally run $15-20 more than a regular store or other sites on the internet. that money is for the next day shipping and "free" returns. if i can buy the shoes in a store, then i have no need to order them on the internet. if i can't find them in the right color anywhere else, or if i really do need them next day and don't want to pay the even higher prices of other websites, or if i know it'll be hard to get the right fit, then i order from zappos.

most other times i order from moosejaw

from the customer service rep today:
Quote :
" Hello Megan! Thank you for chatting with us today. My name is Angela with Zappos.com's Customer Loyalty Team. I'd be more than happy to help you with finding a better price than Teva.com. Regretfully, we no longer have the price protection policy. I can however assist you with trying to find a competitor that has a price even better than Teva's. Would you like for me to search for you? "

the shoe i want is on clearance at teva.com for $36, it's $69 at zappos. we'll see what she comes up with.

her response:
Quote :
"I have to commend you! You actually found the best price out there. There aren't any other competitors that are beating that price right now. Great job finding a really awesome price. I wish I was able to find an even better one for you. Is there anything else I may help you with today? "

oh well. hard to be $36 for a $69 shoe.

she ended with:
Quote :
"You are so welcome! I hope you enjoy the rest of this beautiful day! Take care! "

they have super great customer service ppl

Well, that sucks. The great customer service is a plus, but their real competitive advantage was the price protection policy.

yeah, well i didn't really expect them to be able to match that price anyway. i just wanted it shipped fast. i'm just happy she acted like she was friendly and wanted to help me, instead of the grumpy, ihatemyfuckingjob attitude that most cus serv ppl give you (if you're lucky enough to get a real person).

she did what she could to help me out. most don't do that.

"After a week or so in this immersive experience, though, it’s time for what Zappos calls “The Offer.” The fast-growing company, which works hard to recruit people to join, says to its newest employees: “If you quit today, we will pay you for the amount of time you’ve worked, plus we will offer you a $1,000 bonus.”"

Thats actually a damn good idea.
