7/31/2008 9:22:59 PM

7/31/2008 9:25:42 PM
professors work more than 9 months
7/31/2008 9:27:36 PM
this isn't grade school. it's not the professor's job to make it interesting. it's the professor's job to teach the material. it's your job as a student to be interested.

I think a high school teacher's job is to teach the material. In college, there is a level of responsibility that shifts, as college is the pursuit of higher learning, and can't be that way if a professor has to continually catch students up.
7/31/2008 10:16:33 PM
^^ no. i want a professor who comes in and knows exactly what they're talking about, and lectures. not one that wastes time being excited or trying to make it fun. i'm not here to have fun, i'm here to hear a lecture. lectures are, by definition, not fun.if you want teachers who teach b/c they're excited, go take a philosophy class at a community college or something.]

that new link doesn't show professor salaries

the point is i'm absolutely sick of people crying about having uninteresting teachers. if you're not interested, get out.
7/31/2008 10:47:43 PM
Fortunately, being in a small department has left me with pretty good professors over the years. Even the uninteresting (poor engrish) professors are willing to meet one-on-one whenever someone needs it.
8/2/2008 12:50:46 PM
the simple fact is people will learn the material better when they are interested in it. a boring lecture becomes ineffective compared to a lecture presenting the same material in an 'interesting' way.
8/2/2008 1:19:48 PM
^haha, I still remember being proud of myself on the days I was able to stay awake following Herold's Eng 101 lectures...most boring class I've ever had by a long shot
8/2/2008 1:32:26 PM
I think it's funny that they just changed the URL, but jessiejepp's immediate reaction is that she thinks she's important enough to have "stirred things up too much."

lol

i think those numbers are outdated. My professor makes more than that now. He just got tenure.
