yeah i avoided that because there was a pay and free version, usually means they are leaving something major out to get money. the best is always an app straight from the service provider themselves - tighter integration and usually only free

For my photos backup, I use a pair of Seagate 320GB External drives. I keep one on my desk at home and one on my desk at work. That way I have an off-site redundant storage system on the cheap. And if one shits the bed, no big deal. I also keep all the pictures stored on my WD 1TB internal on the main desktop.

Down the road I will be getting a Drobo FS. They are $699 (currently a $100 coupon is available) with no drives, but can mix and match drive sizes and the FS is a full NAS box, not a damn Firewire/USB unit.
