Why is this the shop for single guys?
I'm not sure if I'm interested in meeting girls who like depositing quarters in carts and paying dimes for bags (unless they have nice bodies and like to fuck...)
This just doesn't sound like the formula for hot girls who have daddies money. 7/6/2008 12:04:47 PM |

I did all my grocery store at ALDI while studying abroad, and now I shop a lot at the one in Cary. The only thing that puts me off about the one in Cary is people screwing up at check out. Have your cash or debit card ready, and then take your stuff over to the bagging counter. It's not that hard to figure out. 7/6/2008 9:16:15 PM |

I meant single guys not because of meeting women, but for getting cheap and easy to make food. Single guys need cheap and easy to make food 7/6/2008 10:01:36 PM |

My take on Aldi...
First and foremost, I'm on a super tight budget right now till I can collect a few paychecks. When money was no object I would blow $200 a week at HT buying items like all natural beef, organic fruit, almond butter, etc. Since I can't afford that right now I decided to check out Aldi.
Pro's: I ended up getting getting something like 3 bags of frozen chicken, 4 packs of frozen berries, bag of cashews, bag of almonds, bag of dried blueberries, bag of dried cranberries, 2 tubs of plain yogurt, 4 bags frozen stir fry and rice for a little over $60. That close to a $150 difference. On a side note, I didn't not buy dinner meats or vegetables because with my current living situation I'm afforded dinner. Where else can you find a dozen eggs for $1.05 or EVOO for $6. Despite the lack of speciality items, I was able to find things like already cooked 'all natural' rotisserie chickens.
Con's: If you are looking for specialty items such as organic foods or niche items this is not the place. Good luck trying to find anything individuality wrapped i.e. a steak. Because of the small store size shopping cart log jams occur frequently. And yes, the debit/cash thing can be inconvenient but just plan accordingly. sometimes, a supplemental trip to the 'regular store' will be required.
Bottom Line: If you are looking for a place with no bells and whistles that can jack up the price; this is the place for you. You can easily shop the perimeter and find the basic necessities to make a simple healthy meals that are high in value. Chicken breast + stir fry + rice = lunch. However, with such cheap groceries, sugar and HFCS are around every corner even in items labeled 'Fit and Healthy' for those who are conscience about those things. If you are able to overcome the finickiness of the slow food/natural/organic lifestyle or just looking for a budget friendly store, Aldi is your ticket. 8/16/2008 2:44:22 PM |

Your mom has issues. Nothing wrong with buying food cheap, especially if it's at Aldi where it's generally the same quality you get at any other grocery store.8/17/2008 12:30:42 AM |

its not poor people food its just their business plan is to cut as much cost as humanly possible and then pass some of the savings onto customers. at regular grocery stores the higher cost of food covers the extra labor, space, name brand products, bags, etc etc. 8/17/2008 12:17:04 PM |

eh, i have mixed feelings about the place, most of the stuff is not name brand so i feel like it should be cheap anyway.
its the perfect place if you want a slack job, all the employees either stock and dont help customers at all or sit. in a swivel chair and ring people up. they dont even bag your stuff.
i know its suppose to keep costs down by bagging your own and paying for the bags there, but the type of things they carry there shouldnt be expensive anyway cause most of it is off brands 8/17/2008 2:32:29 PM |
