i guess, but blizzard has always held gameplay waaaaayyyy ahead of graphics, and managed to not have graphics so bad that its unplayable.

Like the graphics are pretty good considering that you're probably going to end up smashing 40-50 guys at a time in places. I'm not going to buy a new computer for this shit.

I think the graphics are good enough where they accomplish what they are trying to do. They can have many enemies with many graphical effects with each enemy and still make it runnable. I wish I knew what their limits were with units on screen.

I want enemies that you have to attack strategically. Like "pull" some back into an area you already cleared to kill them.

Do not want to just wade into a shit ton of things and just demolish shit.

I remember playing Diablo 1 and having to get some of the mini bosses by themselves before you could kill them. Was actually hard.

Blizzard doesn't bother making technically impressive powerhouses, because regardless of how many polygons and pixels your pushing, a year later someone will out do it and your game will look like shit. Instead, they focus on art and a cohesive visual design, which will never be outdone or look bad in comparison to anything else. The visuals, just like the gameplay, is timeless.

And if you don't like the gameplay, well, it's Diablo, what did you expect? Considering that there are still millions of people playing Diablo II today, i think you'll find yourself in the extreme minority if you say it doesn't look fun. It's almost equivalent to watching a game of football and saying "well, that looks boring, they need to change the way that game is played".

me and 2 buddies were totally hooked on D2 in the summer of 2000 and we took a week long trip up to vancouver. the withdrawl was tough, and every internet cafe type place we walked by had big signs in the window "play diablo2 here!" and such.

They haven't even nailed down a release date for WotLK or SC2 yet. I don't see Blizzard releasing more than one game a year, so assuming WoTLK comes out by the end of this year, and SC2 is released in 2009, that means we're not playing Diablo III until 2010. Even that, 3 Blizzard games in 3 years, sounds extremely optimistic

i'm hoping 2010 at the latest for a release.

i somehow only just now noticed that D3 will only have 5 classes. D2 only started with 5 as well, but expanded to 7. for some reason i had figured D3 would start with those 7 and then add more. D1 & D2 both started with barb, sorc, and zon (rogue in D1 but whatever). so if D3 starts with those 3 and the witch doctor, that only leaves 1 more spot.

any predictions for the new class(es) ?

It just ranks the first couple hundred people to reach level 99. Also some runewords are only available in ladder that aren't available in nonladder. diabloii.net has a forum that is worth checking out if you plan on playing again.

I'm gonna have to get a key this weekend. Man, I remember when my friends and I had a "work schedule" on building up our characters and rotated each account evenly. Every account had two high level characters, the rest were mules. Made a killing off of selling shit. We had a level 98 necro and was in the top 100 rank for a bit.

Then the patch came out and we lost half of our good shit and we stopped playing after that.

Spread out, avoid an AoE, avoid a person who gets a debuff that causes an AoE, heal 1 person who's health will spike continously, kill in a certain amount of time.

The key to diablo is the fact that its about really satanic and dark shit. Other than doom i can't really think of any game or game series that reached this much popularity and was still about as dark as it gets.

this is true. probably only a portion of the appeal though. i mean, i think that adds to it, but the gameplay is the key. that said, i wouldnt say they are as dark as it gets.

examples of darker:
manhunt - convict fights and murders other serial killers at whim of rich dude
deception - trap or kill intruders to your castle (optionally) to raise the devil.
