Isn't the purpose of Absinthe to get completely fucked up?? Why would you really care what it tastes like?
7/10/2008 8:45:55 PM
If you're lucky enough to know someone that will share a bottle with you, it usually isn't to get "super fucked up" You can just sit around and chill out catching a 'lucid' buzz with some different type stuff. Then you can proceed to go out completely clearheaded, yet not so clearheaded and find a kinda cute, kinda hot, kinda sexy, hysterically funny, but not funny-looking girl who you could fuck and then take her back and share some more.

I enjoy rum:

I never tried absinthe straight, because even when you drink it louched at 1:3 or 1:4, it's still a pretty ballsy drink (not just the strength of the alcohol, but the herbs in the drink). And I've never caramelized the sugar as I've seen some do. That's not the traditional way of drinking absinthe, as far as I know. But Lucid is not considered a top shelf absinthe; the base is beet alcohol. But I didn't find it too bad for a "beginners" absinthe.

My goal in my upcoming trip to Europe is to find some "real" Absinthe. I'm prepared to suffer the consequences.
7/10/2008 9:25:16 PM
Y'know that tests have shown that Absinthe is really just high proof alcohol w/o hallucinogenic properties right?I've had it. It is what it is.
7/10/2008 9:26:27 PM
where can I buy some of that ginger liquor? I want it BAD.

Yep. Pretty much any hallucinogenic stuff associated with the drink is mostly considered either myth from distorted accounts of its use, propaganda from the French wine industry, or associated with impurities during the distilling process back in the late 19th century. However, from my experience the drunk you get from absinthe is very different from most liquors. It's as Grandmaster said a very clearheaded, 'lucid' drunk. Your mileage may vary.

*shudders at the thought of hallucinogens*

I've always wanted to try Anchor's Whiskey Old Potrero: as well as Tito's Handmade Vodka:though neither are available in NC
7/11/2008 2:43:03 PM
Snap...we sell Tito's at my bar. I believe its made in Texas???Again...don't like Vodka, but I can stomach that. I sell the hell out of it.[Edited on July 11, 2008 at 2:57 PM. Reason : I see the "Texas" on the bottle.]
7/11/2008 2:45:11 PM
i can always go for a properly mixed pisco sour...the peruvian stylem of course

I'm a fan of Hendrick's gin, and I don't consider myself a gin drinker. From wiki: Hendrick's Gin is a brand of gin produced by William Grant & Sons in Girvan, Scotland. In addition to the traditional Juniper infusion, Hendrick's uses a hint of Bulgarian Rose followed by a mash of cucumber. Hendrick's Gin is bottled in a dark brown apothecary-style bottle.

^^ I saw those on Three Sheets, and the host tried to make one but forgot the sugar or something and it turned out terrible...they look delicious thoughAnyways, I've heard that Rogue spirits (they same guys who brew Dead Guy Ale) are also very good and I've been wanting to try their Hazelnut spiced rum for a while now:

OMG lychee vodka!? I want! Only problem is I can't have alcohol for the next 6 months or so, sucks to be me. I'm normally a luksusowa fan,
7/11/2008 6:54:43 PM
fucking alcohol snobs
7/11/2008 6:56:54 PM
lawlz, luksusowa is the best value vodka out there. Taste of the goose and price tag of smirnoff. All my friends from out of state want me to bring some when I visit. Turns out it's a lot harder to find other places but about every ABC store in NC has it.

I bought a bottle of absinthe a couple of years ago. fin and I drank it and in my opinion it was meh at best. Certainly there was no good buzz that we felt strongly. There was a very slight, whispy feeling of a marijuana high but it was gone pretty fast. I think I spent about $80 US and I wouldn't do it again.Anyone like port here? I'm a big port fan. I prefer tawnies to vintage ports but I'll drink both. I'm not that picky. Is pretty good to start with but the older the better. I've tried an 83 and 87 colheita and they were both absolutely delicious. They currently have the 83 colheita at the Capitol City Club. It was $8 for about 2-3 ounces.

This thread makes me want to crack into my tequila stash. I'm currently working on a bottle of Patron Anejo and Don Agustin Anejo that I brought back from Mexico. I might run out to the liquor store and pick up a bottle of Don Julio Resposado.I used to be a fan of blanco tequilas, but nowadays I find myself preferring anejos more.[Edited on July 11, 2008 at 8:11 PM. Reason : ^I wish I had brought back some Don Julio 1942 in Mexico, but I opted for Don Agustin instead.]

This thread is teasing me.I'm abstaining from alcohol until after I take the Bar exam. Then its on. Will probably stay away from most of the stuff in this thread though...with the exception of the Grand Marnier and Jameson listed in the first post. Mmmmmmm....

anyone ever hit up propel and vodka?there's like zero chance for a hangover. If you're going for 'bang for buck' mixer may I suggest Svedka. Not quite Ketel One/Stoli, but better than Smirnoff. 13.xx/750mL
