---- Because at a certain point visible light is unable to break away giving the hole the black appearance of space itself.


He responds with... if it's devoid of light it can be the "white hole"
a) it's not devoid of light
b) white is the color of objects that reflect nearly all light of all visible wavelengths(ie maximum lightness), so if it was devoid of light then it could not possibly be white.
