you could take that charger and 1/b batteries, and only turn your phone on when you needed it and that would not be really significant to measure at all for its availability.

thats ridiculous if they are. she could have gotten a hat with pockets in it to carry the cell and charger, and you could always benefit from a hat while hiking.

well that was a town stop so we didn't count it as a "real" day. all the full days of hiking were in the 9-15 mile range. technicality I guess

and I'm LOLing all over the place at seedless suggestions. I know he's just trying to be helpful. But if I brought half the stuff that helpful people told me, my pack would weigh 1,000 lbs. we have a charger that doesn't weigh much (haven't weighed it unfortunately). There's no reason to buy a battery charger when we can just plug the phone in town. batteries would weigh more and be a hassle.

"hat with pockets" - I have a backpack, why would I put my stuff in a hat?

RAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRR

Did 10 miles today to finish off in Straton, ME. That included Big Bigelow Mountain which are those two tall peaks in the picture. Down hill blows ass. My dogs are barkin, but they'll be alright for some more tomorrow.

Looking forward to a zero in Wrangley

i've yet to use my internal frame for anything but traipsing about europe

you should find one of the weaker hikers and crucify them on that sign

[Edited on July 22, 2008 at 9:49 AM. Reason : i have a bad habit of stealing mile markers off the AT, from random points where ive crossed/camped]

the only place i've drunk directly out of the stream was in sweden, from glacial melt

i don't think i'm ballsy enough to drink straight from a stream in our mountains here, but it's probably not too bad

I am so curious as to what is in those back packs. I want to do this and I know for sure that I would take a lot of insulin and insulin supplies but other than that I don't know what is needed. Did I already say that I want to do this. Too cool. Me. jealous.

the sign pic is actually from when we completed the 100 Mile Wilderness. So we already finished the most hardcore section!

We get water from sources along the way. even 3 days of water would weigh like 40 lbs. Erik has a filter and I use chlorine to treat the water. also we try to avoid beaver ponds and whatnot to drink out of.

this is my gear list. haven't updated it recently, but I haven't changed much. obviously I have all the stuff now. I didn't bring the down jacket or ukulele

i wonder how long would it take dnl to complete this hike since he would probably stop to beat off at everything. i would go with the conservative 6 weeks.

my boss has a spreadsheet with all his stuff on it. he just brought his new stove to work to show off.. it was pretty sweet.

he's trying to get a group to go for a trip through the dessert, maybe joshua tree or something... that should be interesting.

Hello from Andover, ME....gone ~270 now...next is mahoosucs notch, which is arguably the hardest mile and/or most fun of the AT..takes around 1.5-2 hrs to complete one mile...lots of bolder climbing.

We are almost to NH (our first state will be finished ). At the border we will be met by the white mountains which are supposed to be gorgeous. We'll climb over Mt. Washington! The Cog train goes to the top and it's an AT tradition to moon the Cog....only problem is that they have cracked down on the hikers showing their asses to everyone....i'm still thinking about doing it though and running..what say you t-dub.

Next stop is Gorum, NH where the cheese burger challenge at McDonalds will occur...we were thinkin about doin the value meal challenge as well.

Erik, i will never respect you again if you dont drag your heavy nuts over to that train and drop your drawers.

So fill us non-thru hiking squares in, what are those two challenges.
