well a normal DVD in a blu-ray or hd-dvd player (upconverted) is equivalent or very close to being equal to the digital hd available with either system.

but if you compare the blu-ray library to the hd-dvd library it's a huge difference. and you can check my history of posts in xbox/ps3 related threads...i was 360 500% all the way until i became a ps3 owner. they're both great systems and at this point i firmly believe if you want something more for movies - get a ps3, if you want something for games - get a 360.

the netflix deal doesn't mean anything to me (but it will to some) as i do blockbuster online, get three at a time, and return them in-store for blu-ray rentals.

you wouldn't switch if netflix gave you unlimited downloads In hd at the touch of a button??

Sorry but block buster is going down the drain imho....

Everything will be digital rental here shortly and both br & hddvd will be effed.

i don't think it will be all digital for a while. there are too many audio/videophiles that want to "own something" like a dvd or blu-ray. once the netflix streaming stuff is implemented, it may outweigh the benefit of returning blockbuster dvds in-store...i want to wait until it's fully deployed before i switch though.

The bandwidth sucks in the US and won't be able to support HD streaming for a while. Blu rays are what like 35-40mbit? Can't get faster than 10mbit in Raleigh.

all I can say is...I would love to have a tiny little hard drive that holds my entire HD collection vs. a 100+ cases on a book shelf. This is one reason why I sold/selling my DVD collection and I've kind of stopped buying blu-ray discs and only get them through netflix.

^and yes...sad but true

Yeah I know that for me I really like RPG games and I am a big fan of Fable. I am leaning towards the 360 but which bundle pack should I get and does it matter?

I still like the Blu-Ray feature on the PS3 a lot though and I am going to need to decide in the next week or so because that last check from work is going to go towards one of those systems.

Continue your debate

do you have a receiver and tv that will give you the full advantages of blu-ray? if you like fable and play games more than movies, you def should get the 360 at this time.

I have the hardware to take advantage of the blu-ray and that is why I have to give the PS3 a good look.

gotcha.

i'd buy a 360 first. you can even add an hd-dvd add on really cheap with ebay or craigslist and scoop up some clearance movies. by the time ps3 has 10 or so must own games, you'll probably have enough saved up to consider adding another system.

Well not sure why, but half this list wasn't even PS2 exclusive. GTA has never been PS2 exclusive. Every game was on PC and even GTA3 was on X-Box, albeit a later release date. DMC had two PS2 exclusives, but Dante's Awakening was also on PC (though in the console world it was still technically a PS exclusive). And Final Fantasy was originally a Nintendo exclusive that jumped to Sony consoles. So it should be no surprised that Square Enix go where the money and consoles sales are, which right now is not just the PS3.

I bought a 360 pro after my launch core system RROD'd. Buy my core system with a blank hardrive and wireless controller with the ups label i've got and send it to microsoft and they'll repair it for you

maybe send you a new one.

I got a 360 2 months ago and the games are awesome, but it already broke, but they're sending me a free mailer and say they're going to repair it. So i guess my vote in this depends on how long it takes them and if they actually fix it.

btw, does anyone with experience of this know how long it will take and if they'll do it right? mine is freezing up not rrod.

^PS3s really don't ever break. If you're lucky enough to have one that does, you get a free EyeToy (see the "who has a ps3?" thread in Entertainment).

I'm curious, do 360 games have less content because they're limited to DVDs? I'm wondering if FF13 will suffer because of this. Square has said they're developing it on the PS3 then porting it to the 360.

Rock Band:
On the PS3, the guitars are wireless. On the 360, they are wired. If you buy a song on the PSN (or anything on the PSN, for that matter), you are allowed to download it onto up to 5 different PS3s (similar to the iTunes music store allowing you to have 5 machines authorized).

There are wireless guitars for the 360. The RB2 bundle will be wireless, only the RB1 bundle has wired guitars.

IIRC, the PS3 version of Rock Band doesn't let you use Guitar Hero 3 controllers (or PS2 ones for that matter.)

If you recover your gamertag to another 360 you can download it to that one. Not limited to 5 xboxes either.

They don't overheat. They do get bricked by firmware updates.

^^ RROD would actually be faster since they tend to just swap the board out on that and they know exactly what the problem is when you say "RROD." Just freezing up means they may actually try to replace the specific bad part instead of just tossing the whole guts of the system (to save some money.)

My PS3 has overheated several times...it has also had hard locks where I had to switch it completely off. (usually from watching a movie and pausing it for an extended period of time)

my biggest complaint about the PS3 is the bluetooth. The concept is awesome but sony's execution on bluetooth blows. If i pause a movie and come back after 30 minutes...my controller and remote don't work and the only way I can control the PS3 is by plugging in the controller. The time-out on bluetooth sucks because you can't get it to turn back on. at least with the wireless on the 360 the controller shuts off and i just have to turn it back on.

Your PS3 is defective or you're keeping it in too enclosed of a space.

I've never experienced this either.

i let my ps3 run for 24 hours to get a badge on mgs4 and it wasn't even hot...it has space around it though, so it really might be your setup or the ps3 you have.

Yeah my PS3 is also barely warm after playing ratchet and clank for hours on end. Could be improperly mounted heat sink with an incorrectly applied thermal grease-strip (air bubble trapped between sink and chip during assembly.) That would allow it to get much hotter without necessarily frying itself. Could be that or a dozen other defects introduced during manufacturing.
