the grasscats put on a good show at macs tavern in cary. the band members are from eastern NC i believe... atleast i know of 1-2 of them are from snow hill. they pack out the back patio (decent sized patio). i guess they will be back next thursday.

So it looks like we have a crew of +8 or so going to Shakori Hills. I plan on going up there Thursday Wednesday to setup camp.

I can't believe I just read 2 pages of this and there was not one mention of Bill Monroe!
The father of the music.

Flatt and Scruggs, and the Johnson Mountain Boys are also among my favorites.

If its new grass in any way I hate it. Jerry Douglass, Sam Bush, Bella Fleck, Alison Kraus, and Nickel Creek amongst other new age bands. I hate them all. They all call it bluegrass, but just because you can play a banjo does not mean you're playing bluegrass.

Now to be fair, bluegrass itself as a genre only dates to the '50s, so it isn't like its a purist traditional form in its own right. You're going to have to go hard-core old-timey for that.

Oh & just so you know, Kentucky is the Bluegrass State

I've got to say, I think OCMS is so so. Only heard a couple cds, and they have a few good songs....but...ya know...songs are just a little slow and not enough raging
