Definitely lift weights till it hurts for every muscle groupMore muscle mass = burn more calories while sitting on your assIf you work out on the bike, treadmill, whatever, and read a magazine, don't sweat, and put it on the lowest level, it ain't gonna help that much.I'm sure you don't do that though.

eat right (make sure you're eating ENOUGH - eat too little and your body will hold on to any fat that it has) drink waterwatch your sodium intakecardio AND weight trainingmake sure you're getting enough rest/recoverywe're going to start free body fat screenings on the second monday of every month in the fitness suite (2nd floor of the new gym) so stop by and we can help you track your progress.but most importantly, set realistic, healthy, and attainable goals. I know you've lost a lot of weight and that's awesome, but don't get too carried away. your health is way more important.

I really need to get back into shape so I can lose more weight.I was 260 at one point just after Katrina, I'm somewhere around 225-230 now. Joining a gym will make a huge difference.

In my opinion, lots of ab exercises plus running. There is the issue of getting the low body fat percentage to see abs, but in addition you can buff up your ab muscles through that weighted crunch machine to give your abs some thickness. Situps and all that will give you tone, weighted crunch sets will give you some muscle to show.

Genetics come in to play a lot for abs. You really never know what your abs are going to look like until you diet down and they come out. To get the "look" of the woman in the middle (tone core, not muscle separation) you would need to do hundreds of repetitions of non-weighted ab exercises-- maybe use the exercise ball. And, you'd need to stretch frequently to keep those muscles from thickening up. As a general rule, you would want to avoid anything weighted such as ab machines at the gym or doing ab exercises with free weights. Of course, that's not counting the eating schedule and regular exercise routine. For females body fat must be in the LOW double digits to get that look. You also must weight train your entire body, not just your abdominals. Much of your core tone will come from engaging your abs while working other muscle groups. You should be eating 5-6 times a day, small meals, extremely low fat and roughly 60-40 split between proteins/carbs. I eat 6 x 250 calorie meals a day, evenly spaced throughout the day. I have at least 100 grams of powder Whey protein mixed with water over the course of the day. I get another 50+ grams of protein from real food sources, like white meats, egg whites, fish, etc... I also limit my daily fat consumption to 15 grams. I typically spend 40-50 minutes doing medium intensity cardio or interval training every day. My average heart rate during cardio is ~ 140 (which is slightly high for fat burn, but I do that now since I am on a low fat diet and relatively high carb. When I first started cutting weight my average heart rate was in the 120s during cardio.) I spend at least an hour each day doing extremely focused and intense weight training as well (I do a body part "split" routine: each muscle group once every 6 days and 1 day of just cardio each week) I usually eat a high carb meal (pasta-- but still only 250 calories) immediately after finishing my workout every day.I did all this for one month (started about one month ago actually) and I dropped from 133.0lbs to 120.0lbs as of this morning. My abs are most similar to the bottom girl out of the three pictures, but I train them specifically for that type of look (weighted crunches, etc...) But like I said, abs are somewhat of a finger print-- everyone's are different. You could diet for months and weight train and never get yours to look one specific way. Just depends on how your built Good luck though-- its hard work.

haven't read the thread so I'm sure this has been mentionedbut for a woman it is very difficult to get 6 pack abs. You have to have good genetics and a very strict diet/exercise
