Two hurricanes that rape New Orleans in a decade.
8/31/2008 9:30:44 AM
Maybe this time African Americans will understand that hurricanes don't operate on BPT (Black People's time) and get out. After the storm, news crews should be banned from the area so they can't photograph the whiners that didn't leave and want to complain about not getting help fast enough.

Most of the people in new orleans don't have the means to get out on their own. Last time the government did NOTHING and all the rental cars in the city were gone. Blaming Katrina on anything but the government is foolish. Five days? Really? in the usa? This time they have been using busses, trains and every company shipped in extra rental cars ahead of the storm. Ignorance is bliss though.

if they stay, then they all get darwin awards.
8/31/2008 3:06:20 PM
Seriously, with the reports thrown in by the weather channel (and NOAA, and the other weather nerds), why the hell would they stay. It might be just as bad this time, or worse. All the people who kept commenting on how they don't see how the levees are going to fail this time are fools. If the storm surge is high enough, they're all fucked.

I guess it never occurs to some that just because you live somewhere doesn't mean you chose too... Not every one has the money to up and move, and just about anywhere you live has a risk of some natural disaster.Furthermore, how you gonna ride a bike out of the city if, say, you are disabled, or have small children?
8/31/2008 7:42:47 PM
the children and disabled get left behind.survival of the fittest and whatnot.

Tornado warnings in Baton Rouge, the rain has started, wind is picking up.Here we go.

Remember, it is government's job to take care of you. Even if you have a fucking RV in your driveway, you should still wait for Nagin and company to come pick you up.Plz to experience a hurricane and eliminate yourself from the gene pool:
9/1/2008 9:54:10 AM
you think i can buy some of that busted property for next to nothing, wait around for a hurricane, and then have the government pay for it?
9/1/2008 9:55:40 AM
what a sound investment! In for 3!
9/1/2008 10:03:12 AM
this goes on all the time in hatteras. investors buy homes on the coast and build them particularly weak and very large, insure them and every winter storm surges take many of them out and they cash in on not only insurance but federal money as well. Its quite the investment.

the levees have started to overtop. its a race against time now.
9/1/2008 12:13:08 PM
nah, it'll be all good. just overtopping, which is MUCH better than a breach. I have been watching the N.O. Local News all morning
9/1/2008 12:14:48 PM
thats why i said its a race against time. levees can only deal with overtopping for so long before they breach also with lack of power, some pumps have started to fail. Keep in mind that without pumps the city would flood on a dry day. I also heard there is a breach/govenrment explosion at one of the levees in the lower 9th ward. The strongest winds have just arrived in NO. The situation is looking good now but keep in mind after Katrina had passed the situation was still looking good and later that day all the levees broke. I know that water was being piled into ponchatrain during katrina and much of the mississippi surge receded back into the no area during katrina and that won't happen here but its not over till its over.
9/1/2008 12:22:06 PM
9/1/2008 12:22:58 PM
^^^ It's true that overtopping is better than a breach, but overtopping is a hell of a lot worse than having the water stay on one side of the levee. Overtopping can cause a breach. I just hope those levees were built a little bit stronger than they needed to be, or else all that money was a damn waste. Oh, and all the people that stayed behind are about to get a nasty surprise, etc.
