Ticketing Question: I know I can cancel my student tickets before the game - but what happens to the associated guest tickets? Can those be canceled also if the weather looks like it will be bad for the game? If the game were to be rescheduled due to the hurricane/TS/weather, the guest(s) won't be able to make it. 9/1/2008 7:55:02 PM |

I hope everyone that's on suicide watch steps back from the edge. The media and State fans are way overreacting to the loss to South Carolina. Remember Mississippi State was embarassed on national television last year in their first game (they weren't even really in the game, unlike ourselves), and they bounced back to go 8-5 (4-4). Along the way they beat Auburn in Jordan-Hare Stadium, they beat Kentucky in Lexington, they beat Alabama at home, and they beat their rival Ole Miss. There are still plenty of football games left. Remember last year we started out 1-5, and then went on a run and were in contention to make a bowl. Throughout the season TOB and Co. will fix what is wrong. They are already shuffling the depth chart around and rewarding the players that played well in Columbia. 9/2/2008 11:03:10 AM |

RALEIGH, N.C. – As Tropical Storm Hanna grows in strength in the Atlantic Ocean, some projections have the storm tracking through Raleigh this weekend, perhaps in time to interfere with several NC State athletic events this weekend, including Saturday night’s 2008 football home-opener against William & Mary.
The football game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. at Carter-Finley Stadium, but school officials met Tuesday afternoon to discuss contingency plans for inclement weather in case the game time or date needs to be changed. Women's soccer is also scheduled to play two home contests on Friday and Sunday at the new NC State Soccer Stadium, with game times subject to change due to the weather.
“We have been working very closely with the National Weather Service and should have a much clearer picture of the storm’s path, strength and speed by late Thursday,” said Ray Brincefield, assistant athletics director for outdoor facilities.
“We are going to discuss all options Thursday and do what is in the best interest of our team and fans,” Lee Fowler said of the possibility of adjusting the kickoff time or date. “We are sensitive to the distance may of our football patrons outside the Triangle have to travel and we want to inconvenience as few of them as possible.
“If we need to change the start time or date to ensure the safety of all our fans and student-athletes, the adjusted kickoff time will reflect that concern.”
Fans are asked to monitor GoPack.com for the latest information about Hurricane Hanna’s possible impact on all athletic events, Brincefield said. In addition, an e-mail will be sent to all subscribers to the GoPack.com e-news list and to all area media outlets. 9/4/2008 12:59:12 PM |

Millitary Appreciation Day a tradition at N.C. State
When soldiers parachute out of a plane, with the N.C. State game ball, as part of the festivities of Military Appreciation Day, they’ll be aiming for the field at Carter-Finley. And they hope to land in the right stadium.
Last Saturday, the North Carolina game ball never made it to Kenan Memorial Stadium, as skydivers accidentally landed at Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium.
Fortunately for the Wolfpack, the tandem of retired combat soldiers has combined for nearly 7,500 jumps.
But the bad news is that Hurricane Hanna could bring gusts of wind reaching up to 50 mph.
Though the storm is projected to hit Raleigh over the weekend, State’s contest against William and Mary remains at 6 p.m. Saturday, and Military Appreciation Day activities should continue as planned.
The tribute to the military has been a Pack tradition for more than a decade. The event began as a way for State to honor troops and has grown larger in scale every year.
“To have so many different bases from different branches of the military right here in the state within a couple hours is a good part of our culture,” said Chris Alston, the director of marketing and promotions at NCSU. We want to do whatever we can for those people that give their time and effort and dedication to the country.”
Festivities include an F-18 flyover, a performance by the Navy rock band Pride and the new Adopt-A-Troop Program, which allows pairs of troops _ many of whom are graduates of N.C. State _ to tailgate with selected families and receive free game tickets.
For the second year in a row, wounded soldiers will be recognized on the field. They are selected by the Wounded Warriors Program, a non-profit organization that helps injured troops get involved in the community.
Alston said State’s ties to the military have strengthened with the hiring of former Marine Tom O’Brien as head coach.
“N.C. State’s ROTC program is heavily involved with the athletic program when it comes to this,” he said. “There’s a lot of military history with the school. Of course, when Coach O’Brien came in it strengthened the bond. He has taken his team to military bases during the off-season and visited with the troops. It’s very important not only to the athletic department but to the university as a whole.”
O’Brien said that Military Appreciation Day is “something the community and school should be very proud of.” He also credits his experiences in the military with shaping his character.
“Certainly, it’s given me the essence of what I am… my values and the way I perceive the world,” he said. 9/5/2008 8:49:17 AM |

Weather not an issue for State against William and Mary
With N.C. State attempting to rebound from last Saturday’s loss against South Carolina, concerns have arisen about the possibility of a difficult challenge for the Wolfpack. The challenge, however, isn’t with the William and Mary Tribe, but rather, with the onset of strong wind gusts and rain from Tropical Storm Hanna.
Nonetheless, coach Tom O’Brien feels confident that his team will be ready.
“We did a little work with wet ball snapping, but the main thing is that we have our concentration on Saturday,” O’Brien said. “They have to play in the weather too, so we just have to do the best we can.”
Currently, Hanna has maximum sustained winds around 65 mph. Weather reports predict that by game time Saturday wind speeds will have dropped to anywhere from 30 to 50 mph.
Luckily for State, rough weather is not an unknown aspect of the game for O’Brien, as the Pack head man faced it multiple times while coaching at Boston College.
“We played in a couple of nor'easters in Boston and you couldn’t even see the other side of the field,” O’Brien said. “Rain was going sideways and the winds were gusting 50 to 60 mph.”
When questioned about the team’s confidence following their 34-0 loss against South Carolina and the possibility of stormy weather on the way, O’Brien issued reassuring remarks.
“I think they’re fine,” O’Brien said. “They haven’t shown any ill effects. They were certainly disappointed as everybody was, but the thing about our game is that each week is a new season.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s game will remain on schedule at 6:00 p.m., regardless of weather conditions. 9/5/2008 9:21:46 AM |

i know this is probably a dumb question... but i seem to remember needing a parking pass to park in the fairgrounds lot across the street from the stadium. I know they have the student parking section, which sees like the section you would need the pass for...
so can someone clarify since I'm retarded and don't remember: where can I, as a student WITHOUT a parking pass, actually park? I know people park along Trinity road (do they get tickets?) and stuff and there are those lots you have to pay for behind those office buildings. I just don't remember. It's been too long.
