Quote : | "It really doesn't sound that bad considering you bought an inexpensive used car and drove it 7 years. It would be different if it dropped a transmission or threw a rod unexpectedly. I mean, what's that...$2000 in repairs over 7 years? That comes out to less than $300 per year." |
Exactly.
I've had to replace:
Valve Cover Gaskets ($20, took 30 minutes) Entire electrical system: Alternator, wiring harnesses, Starter ($650 bucks, took the shop 3 hours and has a 5 year warranty on the work and parts) Battery twice (30 bucks each time)
Which comes out to still being CHEAP as HELL. Starters are notoriously bad on these cars, but guess what? You only have to pay for the FIRST one. After that the dealership swaps em on their dime. And the car never "dies". When something is wrong, it still limps along until you can get it to a shop.9/9/2008 5:58:11 PM |

That's one more reason to get a 5-speed. When the starter croaks just park it on hills and push start it until you get a replacement. 9/9/2008 6:09:00 PM |

the problem is you're looking for (more) efficient cars, and that's what everyone else is looking for, too 9/17/2008 10:30:27 AM |
