Yes, I used to work at carmichael and it was funny because there was this guy that would be there at the same time on my shifts and would watch my hands while I cleaned the handles..

It gets real busy in the free weight area weekdays between 6-8PM

I'm sad to say there are a large number of college-age females that come in, tan, and leave. They don't actually use the "gym" part.... So in short, its extremely easy to come in and just tan.

Theres actually a pretty decent atmosphere of serious/heavy lifters that workout every single day. Its not what you might expect from a "planet fitness"...

While I know that to be true of the one you frequent--eulisis (not looking sp up) trains there, they told me no deads (even though he does them there), lifts over 300, and no olympic lifts. I'm pretty sure the me struggling through low rep deads/rackpulls/rack jerks/other assistance lifts utilizing the rack/missed oly lift would send them to their lunk alarm. Do they even have a rack?

Thats absolutely not the case at Planet Fitness Western Blvd. If you can lift it, you can load it on the barbell-- theres no limit. Some of our regulars bench 315+ daily. You can do whatever lifts you want, I do deads most back days and my roommate does 500lb+ deads there. There are people doing olympic lifts there nearly everyday (though I admit I smile a little when I see them done with hideous form). They have two free-weight squat racks and three smith machines. Honestly, until you go there and give it a shot (a few times) you shouldn't hate on Planet Fitness =) They are better equipped than Carmichael in my opinion and as well equipped as dozens of the Gold's I've trained in. I've trained in a couple of other Planet Fitness locations in the Charlotte area where the client-base is significantly different, thus, they enforce different rules. But the location Western Blvd. is run by a great group of guys and gals in their 20's and they don't give people a hard time unless you are being seriously disruptive or disrespectful to other members.

I don't live in raleigh, so it really doesn't matter what they allow in your specific planet fitness, does it? And I have been kicked out of the local Planet Fitness for deadlifting (my warmup set at that).

Are those power cages or squat racks? Screw a smith machine. Better equiped than carmicheal?

Side note, has carmicheal added a power cage again? I was livid when they removed it, while I was there.

you really have to try to get kicked out of planet fitness, or have an employee there that doesn't like you for some reason.

[Edited on September 23, 2008 at 6:40 PM. Reason : it's the only gym I've ever benched over 405 at and squatted over 495 at.]

I didn't realize you aren't in Raleigh. I also didn't realize you were a lifter with such advanced skills and abilities. I certainly agree you need a gym that can accommodate your needs better than Planet Fitness, which caters more to the casual clients who use smith machines in lieu of power racks without hesitation. Its probably better off that you were kicked out during your warm-up set, that way you didn't waste your time in a gym that offers no real benefits for you.
