woah, sorry, didn't realize it was all roses down in the Carolinas.

it wasn't bullshit to us Yankees, I can assure you that. or to the folks on the Great Plains who had to deal with the Depression and the Dust Bowl.

My grandfather put three brothers through college during the depression by selling narrow-gauge locomotives to banana plantations in South America. Considering he was born in 1901, he was at prime wage-earning age when the Depression hit. The man was thrifty as hell till the day he died.

My grandmother, when asked what life was like during the Great Depression, always said "We didn't know there was one. Nobody here had any money, we lived off the land and off the fish we caught."

gas in my hometown right now is around $3.40/gallon

it's still $3.90/gallon here.

my hometown is just 2.5 hours east.

I actually had to sell my computers for quick cash. I've resorted to yelling 1's and 0's through a tin can attached to a string tied around a time warner cable wire
