ya i was thinking of getting the 2709 and using it as a primary and then getting this 22" or the 19" - just a cheap one basically as a secondary monitor, possibly vertically set up to the right so i can throw secondary windows there that i need to watch like irc or ventrilo or even do some light document comparing and editing on it.

it seems no matter what the screen "size", the resolution will never match dual monitors so for now i want to stick with dual monitors - one can be great and one can be small and shitty

i don't know how i'm going to pay for it yet though. that's another problem on its own haha at least i know WHAT i want now.

I haven't missed a second monitor since I plopped in the 28". It's like a 4 monitor setup with no splits.

do you game or watch movies in full screen on it?

decisions, decisions.....should i get dual 2409Ws for $225 each? or stick with the plan haha

^I don't play games much. I do watch a lot of movies, though rarely at full screen. If I full-screen a movie, I have to move back another couple of feet just to really see the whole screen.

the S2409W is a pretty garbage monitor. for someone who does graphics work, you sure don't seem to care much about the display quality.

are there any LCDs that i could make vertical without having to purchase a separate mount? i like the 2709W but the productivity boost I got from 2 monitors was lost greatly when i went down to just 1 monitor.

i was thinking of either hooking up one of my old CRTs again but i like the desk space gained by using an LCD and so i was thinking of getting a cheap LCD and hooking it up on the right of my current one and rotating it vertically so i could put IM clients and long web pages on it perhaps - keep my email open on it or something.

just get one that has a swivel stand. My last dell LCD (2001fp) had a portrait swivel.

yeah, a lot of the dells come with them as do a good bit of others. the feature you're looking for is pivot. tilt= x-axis, swivel= y-axis, pivot= z-axis

Newegg has 34 widescreens that pivot.

You people and your nice monitors. I like my work setup just fine (dual Dell 1908FPc) but I've been too cheap to upgrade my home display (an 11 year old 19" CRT, Hitachi CM751 rebranded by Gateway) because the fucker won't die. I may have to upgrade soon though, as I've built a new system that I'll be either adding a TV tuner to, or at least using to watch shows from download/hulu. I don't do graphics work and little to no gaming--for a panel that's going to be mainly for "general computing" and TV, what are the most important things to look for? Would like to be in the 22" to 27" range and stay under 300.

As Noen mentioned, I know the Dell Ultrasharp series are a quality product, I just don't know if I can justify the cost for what I'll be using it for. Though there's something to be said for a display that will still be working well 5 years down the road, being that I hold on to equipment for a long damn time.

^ Right now the Dell Ultrasharps use PVA panels. I'd spring for an IPS panel if you're going the nice monitor route. The input lag is way lower. Otherwise, TN panels are less than half the price of PVA or IPS panels.

I picked up a USB video card yesterday that claimed it supported 1920x1200 resolution on Mac computers so that I could have a total of 3x24" displays running on my iMac. It worked, barely. Even dragging the mouse lags on the USB screen though. What a letdown. I've been craving a 5760-pixel-wide desktop for years now. so close yet so far away. fml

i'm lookingi for a new 22 or 24" "HD" monitor. i'd really prever a 1920x1200 instead of the 16:9s.
