I agree there are morals in the book, but morals or not, that's not the reason they're abstaining. They're abstaining cause he'd probably kill her. It's not like he doesn't spend every night in her bed with her, something I doubt the mormons would approve of.

I loved the books, the movie was okay.
the baseball game in the meadow was extremely corny.... i took a friend to see the movie who had never read the books and afterwards i was sort of apologetic about putting her through that. 12/2/2008 9:32:22 AM |

As someone who has no fucking clue what this story about, but thinks the idea behind vampires could make a cool enough movie unless they totally fuck it up...
you think this movie is worth seeing? I mean, I have literally no clue what this is about, I just know my wife mentions it with this sort of disdain, like its a book for teens or some shit, like Harry Potter but with an aire of stupidity about it. 12/3/2008 9:34:19 AM |

My wife and I went in not knowing what to expect, but I have to say that Twilight was good. Just get off the goddamned Internet, watch the movie with an open mind, and think for yourself.
In any event, Twilight is about ten times less fairyland than Harry Potter. 12/4/2008 11:42:02 PM |

I read the manuscript she has online. I want her to finish it so bad. Edward is the whole reason I read the books so fast so to know his perspective would be unbelievable. I have never been so in love with a fictional character in my life. It is truly embarrassing.
Also, Stephenie Meyer said she wrote the book for herself (a mid 30 year old woman), so it is only considered teeny bopper by the people who published it. I think it has too many mature themes in it to be for kids 11-16.1/23/2009 11:37:36 PM |

I haven't purchased the DVD yet. I wasn't sure if the movie was worth it to spend $20 more on it. Other than you thinking they've expanded the kissing scene, are there any other differences that might would induce someone to purchase it? 3/29/2009 7:01:12 PM |

there are bonus scenes and actor interviews, haven't watched those yet.
but, i mean, come on.... you can watch this whenever you want is MORE than enough reason to buy this on DVD. mmmmm rob pattinson.... (who is only hot as edward, not as a "real person" btw)
i still cringe at some of the cheesy acting though: Edward (to Bella over the pushing the van out of the way, and finding out the truth about what he really is): you're never going to give up are you? Bella: No Edward: Well, be prepared to be disappointed.
i know this is almost word for word from the book.... but something was just missing from the acting here, lack of emotion? i dunno.
but still. the next one will be better, i hope.

I read the first book because the girl I am talking to read it and said she couldn't put it down. Also I was curious after hearing qntmsister and my mother rave about it before Christmas. I do not plan on seeing the movie because whomever they cast as Roselie is no where near as pretty as I was expecting. Alice is a cutie though.
My beef with "Twilight" is that anyone with even an inkling of the womens' rights movement should be appalled how weak of a character Bella is. I can live with her being goofy and uncoordinated but the whole "I can't live, breathe or do anything without Edward" garbage made me want to vomit. It sends the absolute wrong impression to the target audience of teenage girls. Also, it sets a completely unrealistic expectation of what they should look for in guys. I actually liked the story more when the other Cullens were involved.
Also, the comparison between this and Harry Potter is just unwarranted. At least with Harry Potter there were general themes such as character growth and good versus evil (although I suppose one could argue that in Twilight the good vs. evil is the whole "kill or don't kill humans" thing). Plus the writing of Harry Potter was leaps and bounds better than Twilight. I do concede that if HP was written from Harry's perspective (first person) that I would have chucked the books rather early on when he started being a whiny brat.
Oh, and I kept wanting to read his name as Matt Cullen.

^^ I don't think Bella is all that frail. I mean, if you read the whole series, you'll see her character develop as a strong, protective, passionate person. also, she's extremely stubborn. she's not helpless, and just because she's soooo intense about Edward doesn't mean she's not strong. i mean, it takes a strong girl to show strong feelings.
in Breaking Dawn *spoiler* ........ she becomes EXTREMELY badAss. even when she's pregnant, she's defiant- strong, and determined. then of course when she turns into a vampire she can hunt along side with the others, and it's awesome.
i think maybe it seems like Bella is weak all along simply because she's human, not because she's a girl.
it is a LITTLE bit annoying how she is a little too clingy to Edward though. (granted she does play the field a little and get some wolf kisses from Jacob)

I saw the movie first then read the book (since my wife has all 4 books laying around the house at the moment). I'm halfway into the 2nd book now.
I thought the movie was OK as a standalone. No big complaints.
The baseball guitar music rocks. They should have coached "Alice" on how to pitch convincingly.. because it looked awful HA. I didn't think the baseball scene was up to par with how the book did it. And the standoff was hilariously bad. Buffy had scarier vampires.. the Twilight ones don't even have fangs wtf.
I was surprised how differently they did the Cullen home. Frank Lloyd Wright house in the movie?
Bella reminds of the guy from Gone in 60 Seconds (N Cage's little brother). Like she'd be his sister or something, and it bugged me the whole movie
Alice was my favorite right off the bat I'm surprised so many guys thought so too.
The book has way too much lovey-dovey, swoon-at-every-line stuff. I told my wife it'd be 10x if written by a guy

I think this gets it about right... http://headtripcomics.comicgenesis.com/d/20080915.html Anyone thinking she has these great huge morals, wait a little while, and she'll turn right back around on them. Then it turns into another series of the writer jerking off to herself while running the same paper-thin characters into the ground with lack of character development. It's the literary equivalent of Dragonball Z. The characters have stopped growing long ago, but things are still happening to them. The characters don't change due to the events of the books, but stuff is still hapening to them, so we end up with more books, even when the material contradicts the rules of the base line world. 3/30/2009 11:57:08 AM |
