I always put a little sugar/Equal, cinnamon, and raisins in my grits. By my choice, not theirs.
And I dipped saltines in my Kool-Aid.

i mean i guess they put liquor on my gums when i was teething. and i ate frozen bananas instead of real popsicles. but that isn't THAT weird.
and my mom still gives me a shot of honey and bourbon when i'm sick.

but none of that seems really weird. just old southern remedies for things that probably don't actually work and would probably get you some kind of child abuse charge these days.

whiskey and honey does seem to work...

Gawddammit...I'm southern born and bred, and I ain't touchin' that shit. Neither that nor sousemeat. GAWDDAMN. *GAGS*

But I love me some GOOD liver pudding. They don't make it like they used to...like packed in the chitterling. Nowhere to be found any more.

Sauerkraut and pork...we had it all the time. Cream cheese and olive sammiches (still LOVE them).

i do not consider this to be weird, but i have found out that it is not as common as i thought: rice and tomatoes.

At my grandmother's house, we wanted pizza. She was missing flour or something, so she used dinner rolls to make "pizza". It became a staple.

That's about the only thing I can think of. Looking back though, even though our foods were considered "normal", i'd like to go back and bitch slap them for their being OK w/ soda, candy, sugar cereal, etc etc.

We used to eat English muffin pizzas. Those were pretty good.

i love asparagus straight out of a can, but didn't really eat that when i was younger.

my granny used to make me mayonaise sandwiches. One piece of white bread, duke's mayo and pepper. i think she was out of tomatoes one day so made it instead, but i had those several times at her house growing up.

I used to eat a lot of carrots when I was really young. At one point my skin developed an orange pigment (like that one guy on the episode of scrubs, but not that sevre). My parents took me to the hospital, thought something was seriously wrong but just the beta carotene.

Not a weird food so much as a reaction but whatever.

Brains and eggs.

Hundred year old eggs
chicken feet
pig ears
dried shrimp
squid jerky
preserved spicy tofu
stews made with fermented lemons as an ingredient
fermented fish

I'm Chinese and haven eaten half the shit on fear factor as everyday food.

[Edited on November 30, 2008 at 10:58 PM. Reason : fermented fish is the worst. smells like catfish bait]

I just ate a lot of casseroles. Boiled asparagus is pretty nasty and we ate that a lot for some reason.
oh yeah...pickled pig feet
