There is nothing wrong with having nice things if you can afford them. The problem comes when you have expensive taste and are broke / in debt.

I have relatively expensive habits, I admit, but I do shop around and I am very patient at buying. So all in all, I save lots of money by being patient.

Oh I have totally toned down my spending. It's different when your parents are giving you the money and paying your bills than when you are doing it all on your own.

Now I just keep my fashion magazine subscriptions to stay in the know. I drool over the really nice things and then try to duplicate it for cheaper

We all love shopping.

Anyway, I think girls, because they are the object of the world's affection, are taught a lifestyle at an early age that most likely they cannot afford, in a relative sense, because the world caters to women in general, and this spawns the 'confliction' of girl logic and money.

yeah, I used to spend a small fortune on fishing, especially when I was fishing tournaments. I have curbed that quite a bit. In fact, other than some soft plastics, I didn't buy anything fishing related this past summer.

I dont even look at clothing store ads cause my mouth gets all dry and my finger itches for my credit card.

Such a sad day when I realized I couldn't spend like I was rich and survive.

Also, if I do spend stupid money on something, I damn sure make up for it in other ways, For example My power bill was $31 last month, and probably only averaged $40/month this year. And I do other things like that to save money too to spend on my habits.

I have really expensive hobbies (photography, drumming) and she always gives me shit about money, and how I seem to never have any to buy groceries, etc. I mean, she's right, I am somewhat irresponsible with money, but nowhere near as bad as I used to be. She just doesn't understand that I have credit card payments to make, which is why money "disappears."

Plus, she won't hesitate to go spend $60 bucks on "party supplies."

i have done a complete switch money wise

the old me bought whatever she wanted and had credit card debt, never had money, overdrew my account

the new me has no credit card debt, old shabby clothes, and thousands of dollars in savings.

i WANT to buy things, but i can't do it after digging myself out of a large hole. and deciding that i would rather have money to go on trips and do other things.

ugh. it sucks. massively sucks.

I just don't get how some people do it. I make pretty good scratch, and I live frugal as shit. I don't have any cool toys, haven't bought new clothes in years, drive a very fuel efficient vehicle, cook almost all of my meals at home instead of eating out, and I am still broke as shit.

and i guess i still have some debt (NOT credit card) but it is "good" debt. like i have a mortgage payment, which blows, but the value on my condo has already increased since i bought it. so that is good.

ugh i hate money. all i want is new jeans, boots, a make over, a personal trainer, etc. but i have to settle for being poor and ugly and having money to do things and buy a new outfit here and there. instead of going on shopping sprees and having no money ever.

That, or the problem comes when you have poor habits and broke/in debt. I make a good salary, and I have a decent car. But other than that, I don't have nice things (other than one guitar which I've had for 11 years, I don't think any one of my possessions is worth more than maybe $300), and my rent is cheap. And yet I still run out of money at the end of the month...I think "convenient" life (i.e eating out all the damn time) is what's killing me. That, and the large check (well, electronic transfer) that I write to the credit card companies each month, paying off the several years where I did not make a good salary but still lived much like I do now...)

I graduated in May and the biggest purchase I've made was my HDTV, TV stand, and accessories. Since then I've bought a few computer games as well, and a replacement water pump for my truck.

I shell out about $415 a month on rent + utilities + bills(power, cable, water, phone) and $400 to pay back college loans and lastly $500 a month goes to savings. I'm sitting pretty so far but now I'm eligible for my 401k. Now, every paycheck will be a little bit smaller because I'm going to max out my contribution on that so whatever is left over will be less. I'll have to not put as much on my student loan and even less into savings.

automatic savings and bill pay ftw! I have everything autodraft after I get paid, and most of the time I don't even see the money in there so I don't feel what I'm missing.

I haven't had any money problems so far, no overdraft fees or buying expensive goodies without saving up first (I LOVE MY TOKIDOKI PURSE) and I don't have any credit cards to keep track of which really helps. Both of my parents are really horrible with money and have crazy debt so I learned early on from them and feel lucky that I got to skip that life lesson

when my boyfriend sees this thread he will probably come in and be mean to me

but i'm so REFORMED NOW!!!! and it makes me gag to think about it. but it does really feel better to buy something when you KNOW you can afford it and won't have to starve yourself for a month or go donate 382937489 things of plasma when the credit card bill comes

stupid stupid responsibility

Now I see NOTHING wrong with that I would also like a preview of said dress lol.

I need a sugar daddy. I believe it would be a very beneficial relationship.

isn't that much.

you may have to consider that your 'scratch' isn't that good.

i make what i would consider to be 'decent' but not good. i have enough money to spend over 1200 a month on mortgage and HOA as well as all my bills. This still allows me to have money to enjoy myself and buy nice things while putting 10% into my 401k. i agree with the poster who said that you were doing something wrong.

I was born without the girl spending.
I am super thrifty to the point that it drives my parents insane.
my dad just bought me a 42 inch plasma tv so that I will stop going to his house to watch tv.
(I haven't owned a t.v. in 5 years)
I don't like shoes.

I keep talking myself out of buying a DS when I see them on sale all the time on slickdeals. It would feel good to get one, but it feels better to overcome the desire to buy something I don't need.

My goal for life is to never again pay any credit card interest. The only time I will carry a balance is if it is financed at 0%.
