there are bunch of people on forums with E36 m3 with bone stock internals with well over 400rwhp on an engine that is n/a from factory. there is a guy who finally blew his 2.8l 328i with 700rwhp. it helps that engine comes with forged rods from factory.

i would say mitsu (evo) is up there as well with other manufacturers.

there is a sc kit for bone stock s2k engines that do 370WHP. it also raises the rev limit to 8600rpms from 8300. I've ridden in one and if that kids car is still in once piece I would put it in the solid engine club.

4g63 is a killer engine.

the Miata engine is fucking ridiculous...you can triple (probably even quadruple) the horsepower, and nothing bad happens.

Well, transmissions break, but you can get another one for like $200.

[Edited on December 7, 2008 at 8:41 AM. Reason : ^ which kit is that? I thought 330rwhp or so was about the highest for a stock kit/stock eng.]

yeah, the Rotrex blower kit...are they actually making that much power for '06+ straight out of the box? I'm pretty sure even the AP2 kits (like '04-05) I looked at didn't make that much without doing further modifications.

there was an MP62 blower kit coming out that sounded promising, too (although it had been promised for a long time, and was still not actually available for public sale last time I checked). can't remember the name of the company right offhand.
