no housing expenses right now

but should be between 10% of between gross and net when I get home. Well, rent will be less than 10% of gross. I think rent and utilities will still be <10% gross.

Roommates.

When I lived in FL, I made $40-60k/year, and spent like $250/month in rent (lived in a nice house, 5 minutes from the beach, split 4 ways). My share of bills was another $100/month or so (including cable/phone/internet, trash, water, electricity). When I lived in WA, I made about $60k/year, and paid about $450/month (3000 sq foot house, on a hill overlooking the Straits of Juan de Fuca, split 3 ways). My share of bills was $150/month.

Now I make low 70s, but when I get back to the States, I still want to keep my total of rent/bills no more than $600/month...maybe less.

With a little bad luck and relocating expenses, that might be going up to 33% with a new higher-paying job. We'll see...

I'm in a decent situation right now...

13.8% of gross for our household income (own, not rent)
20% of net for our household income

having 2 incomes is the way to go.
