Of course, for safety and hygiene, it would have to be done in a way such that wastes were reasonably contained and materials could be cleaned. (For instance, mobile food vendors can't sell food outdoors in a manner that allows food wastes to be left on the ground.)

Just to comment on a few things said in this thread...

Most women who breastfeed do not feed on a schedule, but when their child is hungry. No matter how well you try to plan outings, sometimes your kid is going to want to eat at random times. Unfortunately, there aren't many public places that have an area set aside for discreet feeding. And the hell if they are going to try to feed their kid in a dirty public restroom while sitting on the toilet.

Not all moms can just pump and take a bottle along. Bottle feeding requires that a child have a different set of skills than breastfeeding. Some babies will use both without any problem, but others won't. Some moms also avoid introducing the bottle because it can cause the baby to refuse to eat due to "nipple confusion."

I don't have a problem with women breastfeeding in public or taking photos of it. I prefer that it be done in a tasteful or discreet way, but even that is entirely subjective.

I think out of respect for other people (knowing that some people may be offended by it) if a woman is going to breast feed in public all you have to do is drape a blanket over it. And the child won't be harmed by that blanket, they may actually feel more secured and less out in the open as well. I mean people don't pitch a fit when they see a dog laying there with 6 dogs latched on, but when they see one human baby latched on to their mother it's OH SHIT BAN PICTURES ON FACEBOOK!
